Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Instead of updating whichever thread we started discussing insurance in and re-derailing that thread, I thought I'd create a new thread. Previously I had discussed my potential change from State Farm insurance to Hagerty. My main reason is to have a declared value of my car since there are few comparable vehicles. My second reason was Hagerty's "cherished salvage." There were stories of people who had a classic vehicle that had huge sentimental value that were totaled during Hurricane Harvey, but they were not offered buy backs by their insurance companies. After talking to Hagerty on the phone a few minutes ago I learned that if you don't have "cherished salvage" with them, you still automatically have the choice to purchased back your totaled vehicle. But if you have "Cherished value" you get the vehicle back for free after they pay the agreed upon value minus deductible. (in my case it is $54K) The rates I was quoted were adjusted and they're MUCH cheaper now. More than my current State Farm insurance, but that's comparing apples to oranges. State Farm trade-in value for a 2002 911 is likely to be less than I paid for my new engine alone.

POST 2Original post

I've been wanting to switch to Haggerty but it doesn't seem to be an option for me at this time. My 996 is my only car. I work from home so it's not a commuter and mostly driven on weekends and road trips. According to their policy you need a daily, which is a shame, since their own motto is "Never Stop Driving"! I will look a bit more into the Porsche insurance as I think it is or will be available in my state soon. Even with the amount of miles I do annually 8-10k it still might be a good option with the declared value benefit. I've been with Geico for many years but their rates have been going up quite steadily despite a clean record and 2 cars on the policy. One thing that is pretty important to me and a must is the uninsured/underinsured coverage. After getting run over by a car while cycling last year (hit and run), I depended on that coverage to help pay for bills, with a help of a lawyer. In that regard, Geico was pretty good to work with.

POST 3Original post

I have Hagerty on my 996 and 928, and like them so far (not had to make a claim) i've not heard of the cherished salvage, but i may look in to that plpete84, there are other classic car insurance companies also, Leland West is a good one, and i've also heard that PCNA now offers classic car insurance

I had a similar issue with Haggerty up here in Canada. First they wouldnt accept me, as I did DE events. Once I stopped using my car for DEs, I figured Id try again, only this time it was that I drive my car too much. Their limit is around 6000kms/yr, Im more in the 10-13K/yr. Garage queens only need apply.

I am paying $1300/year with State Farm for both my 996s. 2003 Turbo with $85K stated/agreed value 38K miles 2003 Cab with $45K stated/agreed value 32K miles Do you think that I am paying too much?

Good call. I have been thinking of giving Leland West a call as they tend to pop up in the panorama mag I read. Might need to look into it more but I think I remember seeing no mileage caps, which would be nice. I wouldn't expect my insurance to cover any damage from track use, HPDE or more, unless it's specifically in the policy. For when I do go, I'll be buying a policy from one of the companies that specialize in it. I need to do my HPD(Clinic) soon for noobs like myself so chances of any oopsies are low there but for actual HPDE events definitely. A fellow 40AE owner local to me that just sold his car went off track. No damage to frame but with a new fender, lights and paint it all added up to about $25k! Money well spent on that policy!

+1 for 6K mileage limit. I called them a few months ago (California) and was told the same thing. Since I've been driving mine 7 or 8K per year my first few years I wanted the option of driving more than 6K. I ended up going with Porsche insurance that automatically has stated value but has a per mile charge.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 18581624

That sounds stupid cheap... That's about what i pay for my 04 C4s with Hagerty per year. I think it's 90/month

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My Hagerty quote said unlimited mileage. But since I work from home 4 days per week I no longer drive 12K miles per year. With my commute that's ~2400 miles per year. Right now I'm driving about 40 miles everyday so I can get the engine broken in faster.

POST 11Original post

Is it Stated or Agreed? They arent the same thing and you should be cautious if its Stated and you get into an accident.

POST 12Original post

I always recommend that P-car folks look into Porsche Insurance. They charge a base premium and then a per mile rate. I pay less than a $1k per year for both cars after I add in my average mileage costs (based on 6000 miles/year for the 996 and 2000 miles/year for my Spyder). I have pretty high deductibles so no doubt that is part of the reason for my cheap rate. The 996 is insured for $30k Agreed Value and the Spyder for $100k Agreed Value. Both values are probably a bit too low so I may adjust them up in the near future. I get unlimited mileage and they let you choose your repair shop with the default always being one that is Porsche Certified. They have been excellent to work with for the past two years and my Spyders base rate went DOWN recently. Ive never had a rate go down before.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hagerty calls it "Guaranteed Value." @islaTurbine , you definitely should increase your value some.

POST 14Original post

For the "Porsche Insurance", who is this through? PCNA?
