But I have seen one cooling system o-ring that didn�t use a water soluble lubricant because there was a relatively large relative motion between the parts in the transition to operating temperature and the o-ring needed a lubricant to avoid excess wear.

So I understand it�s recommended using a dab of Molikote 55 on the injectors O-rings for easier installation and better seal. the Moly 55 supposedly makes the seal expend a bit. my question is why not use it on any O-Ring? on the same subject, what is the recommendation for installing spark plug seal on the 3.6? dry, oiled or with some sort of other lubricant? thanks in advance.

Porsche recommends water soluble lubricant for cooling system o-rings. In theory the lubricant dissipates and the o-ring will grip the sealing surface rather than move around. But I have seen one cooling system o-ring that didn�t use a water soluble lubricant because there was a relatively large relative motion between the parts in the transition to operating temperature and the o-ring needed a lubricant to avoid excess wear.

Any O-ring exposed to oil or gas I use vaseline. If I haven't got vaseline I use chapstick. Other fluids I lube the O-ring with that fluid, such as brake fluid or coolant. Air conditioning O-rings get Nylog.
