So I bought the Belluga bypass pipes and installed last night.

Now I run with a custom catless setup that is the best sounding I have ever had though I do have drone at 2700 RPM.

Changing over to Fabspeed headers in a few days to see how that works.

Is anyone currently running the muffler bypass pipes?

OK, installed the baffles to the Fabspeed bypass pipes, using the 3 baffles with the plug for the center in the kits, the car sounds great now with no drone, I have Fister's mufflers on my 04 C2 and thinking about going to the bypass with the baffles for myself now, it is louder than my car but reasonable.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since I purchased my 00' 996 almost a year ago the exhaust note or lack there of has left me wanting more. My plan is to eventually purchase a Fabspeed Maxflow system however that more than likely wont happen till end of season/early next year. I want to enjoy a more aggressive exhaust note this season and the muffler bypass pipes are something I could swing right now and keep for the time being. I realize that it is not a ideal set up, and that it will in fact be quite loud.
Is anyone currently running the muffler bypass pipes? Just how loud is it, how severe is drone, is it something you can tolerate on a car used semi daily for commuting/track events?
I usually do not take the cheap route on parts, but I am desperate for to get more sound until I am able to get the Fabspeed set up I am after.
Or another question is how hard would it be for me to have a local muffler shop do the fister hack on my stock mufflers?
fabspeed muffler bypass, great sound, no drone whatsoever at any speed. there's a guy that had a thread a couple wks ago about the beluga one as well that liked his, had a video as well. in fact one for sale currently in the parts marketplace.

Sometimes my close friends call me CheapBastard....I've got a 2000 C4 and I an leaning toward doing the Fister D Mod. (By-pass pipe coming from closed circle on very end and connecting to the pipe coming out of the muffler)
So ideally, I need mufflers from a 996 Mk2. located a set from a 2004 being parted out in Dallas. The guy parting out the car told me he wanted to sell the exhaust system complete (headers, cats, mufflers & tips).
We agreed on just the two mufflers for $350.00.
Is that a good price?

That sounds like a reasonable price for two mufflers. Most of what I've come across has been in that range. Was that the price shipped?
Also why is it you are looking for 996.2 mufflers, can you not do the Fister mod with the 996.1 mufflers?
-b3nc-,
From what I've read on these forums, the best mufflers to use for the Fister D Mod are 996 Mk2 mufflers.
No price shipped. I live in Austin and would drive up to buy on site.

I have the Fabspeed muffler bypass and 200 cell cats. The car really doesn't drone but the exhaust note is absolutely beautiful. I used topgear cats, they are much more affordable than most others.
So I bought the Belluga bypass pipes and installed last night. Love the sound, dislike the highway speed drone. What are some options for cutting out some of the drone?
I was going to have the fister done to my mufflers but decided against it as I want to keep them stock so if I ever need to sell.
As far as I know there is no way to cut out drone with the bypasses unless you add some kind of element like a muffler somehow. Fister mod is a partial bypass, is cheap and has zero drone. I find the tone of the fister style mod much better than the full bypass which is a bit unpleasant sounding with stock headers and cats. I've had fisters with both with 200 cell crossover cats from NHP and now the M&M cat bypass x-pipe from FVD, no drone with either system. I'm probably beyond some tracks' sound limits with the fisters plus catless x-pipe, but it sounds great from inside and is actually pretty quiet-ish in normal driving under 3k rpm. FWIW I did lose noticeable torque below 4k, but gained a lot above that rpm.
Nice thing about bypass pipes is you drop a bunch of weight in the rear....really makes a difference on the track I think...
I have tried both Fabspeed Maxflo and Super cups....Maxflo is great on the street and ok on track. Supercups are great on track and drone sucks on the street. Now I run with a custom catless setup that is the best sounding I have ever had though I do have drone at 2700 RPM. Since pretty much a dedicated track car I don't worry about it. SO the question boils down to what are you using the car for. For street I think you will not be happy with bypass.
Don't underestimate the impact of headers. I put some speedtechs on last fall and have been impressed with the sound.
Here's mine with speedtech headers & fisters on stock cats.

This looks like exactly what I could be looking for! Im going to try them out, at that price what do you have to loose.
I wonder if I should go two disc or three?...
I just ordered a set of 3 disk today on E-bay from the same company cheaper, 56. a piece..... will put them on a 02 C2 with bypass pipes which are ridiculously loud even for the 26 year old that drives it.
I have the 3-disc. I tired with and without any muffler packing in between. Volume wise, I think it does the job with muffler packing. Power wise, you lose a lot of your low end.
With or without the inserts, bypass pipes are very very loud. Not so loud inside the car, but it's very very loud outside.
I used mine for about a month and changed to them Dansk Supersound, love it!
He also mention that he got back a lot of the low end power back.
I have a set of bypass pipes I'll put on for a couple of weeks for the Dream Cruise in Detroit. Very loud - I love the sound, however, bit much for everyday driving.
Hi, I just installed the Beluga Bypass pipes and the drone is fairly annoying. How are you liking the baffles and is there any impact on power, driving, etc... ? Thanks.
Well it has been a while since we run them, we had to pull them for the CA smog check and he has not been in any rush to put them back on LOL, very noticeable low end power difference, we have since put new plugs and coils and we had a chance to put the bypass back on, he wanted the mufflers back on...… he will be doing the Fister like my car eventually. the bypass are just sitting on the shelf. he was happy with the sounds just not the power loss on the low end.
Where did you see powerloss ? Mine is a daily driver so I try to just drive normally not racing around. I've also read conflicting accounts on this topic, i.e. less back pressure so shouldn't be any powerloss, possibly gain, plus you have less weight due to the mufflers no longer being there.
We used the Car Chemistry 2 1/4 3 baffles and the center plug, the car mainly used in San Francisco with some very extreme hills with stop and go. so very noticeable loss of low end power. Most vehicles and especially motorcycles when back pressure is reduce, results in loss of power, with the increase of noises seem to fool most with more power.

P.S . Dyno result are seen to show drops in torque at lower end and not so much in H.P.
I just do not understand people who think it's great to make their cars as loud as possible. What kind of thrill is it to impose your liking loud noises onto everyone else? Do you walk down a crowded street and stick your elbows into everyone's gut? Whether it's motorcycles or American muscle or 1000 watt stereo systems, people just love sticking it to other people for god knows what reason. It's a world of five-year-olds.
Get some Fister cans. Mellow sounding when you want to be, nice grumble at idle, and pleasant sounding on the throttle. Definitely better than the sewing machine quiet stock exhaust.
I'm looking at them and have been in contact with them. Not quite sure if they sell the mufflers outright or if you need to swap cores, or have them do the modification.
