My concern is the actuator has a plastic piece that is fitted very tightly in a metal slot on the latch.

Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'related' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust so it makes contact' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

reconnected switch to light, closed hood, started car, sash lights back on.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi everyone.
my battery went bad and I had to replace it. Now, even though they are shut (I shut them several times) the warning light on dash stays on. This was never a problem before so it has something to do with replacing battery. Many times these issues turnout to be a simple fix. Any ideas? Could I have hit something where the battery is? Don't see anything.
thanks for any help you can offer.
I ran into the same issue a few weeks ago. Was showing a friend around the car and had popped both compartments. Shut them and then went to take him for a ride and the warning lights were on. Got out and re-shut both but the lights didn't go out. After two to three shuts, they finally went out. It hasn't done it again but it was odd.
There r micro switches mounted to the latches. U need to verify they are being tripped off. U can manually trip the switches to see if the lights turn off.
I was thinking there may be some sensors or something. How do I access the micro switches? Take off rug covering or plastic cover over the top of latch?
I took the top plastic/rubber cover off and there is a square metal box on right side with a plastic wire line coming from the right side too, inside the metal box at the end of the wire is a plunger device. I imagine this gets pushed in when hood is closed to switch off dash light.
I had my son watch dash while I pushed plunger in with my finger but light didn't go off. I think issue is related to that plunger.
The plunger is the "lock". The microswitch is about 1"x1\2"x1\2" with a metal tab that gets depressed by the mechanism when the lids r shut.
u may have to remove the 2, 10mm bolts to access it
now that I'm thinking about, I think the plunger is the actuator that opens hood, it pops out to open, not gets pushed in to shut off light as I originally thought.
maybe changing battery or charging old one before I realized it was junk, I damaged microprocessor(s).
ok, De Jeeper, some progress, took the trunk liner out for access to back of latch, found the wire that goes from latch to trunk light, when I separated connection and trunk light went out, closed hood, started car, and dash light was OFF, partial success.
reconnected switch to light, closed hood, started car, sash lights back on. Do you think it's a microprocessor? Looking for your diagnosis.
thanks.
First lets staighen out a problem with the terminalogy. There is no micropressesor, this implies that there is some digital logic to the circuit. What it there is s microswitch. All this does is mechanically connect the ground side of a loop to tell the computer it is open. When u disconnected the wire it did the same thing as opening the switch. U need to find the actual microswitch inside the latch and determine if it does not work or if the mechanical action of the latch is not hitting it correctly.
to determine if it works just simply push down on the metal tab. It should click and the light should go off. If it works then something on the latch needs to be adjusted so it makes contact.
Sorry about the terminology De Jeeper, micrswitch, not processed.
I did push down on the tab as you suggested, it clicked and light stayed on, must be switch. Can the switch be repaired or must be replaced? They are not inexpensive for a little plastic switch.
thanks for your help, appreciated.
The parts on my mk1 r different. Im not sure if this is the correct micro switch?
99661320600 seems pricey?

replacement., that looks like part, it is quite a bit of dough. Dealers want $125 or more in US. Maybe I'll just live with the wire disconnected from trunk light, that shuts off dash warning light too.
lot of money for a 2" trunk light.
the first thing I'm going to do is take it out and see if I can see what's wrong with it. My concern is the actuator has a plastic piece that is fitted very tightly in a metal slot on the latch. I tried moving it previously but it will need more force but I don't want to break it and end up needing a new actuator too. Maybe some lubricant would help.
Hi De Jeepers,
I got it out and with the trunk light on, I moved the switched tab all around to see if light went out but nothing, so it's definitely the switch,God news was I found a used complete latch with microswitch for $37, a bargain.
thanks for all your help.
Hi De Jeepers,
part showed up today and it took about 15 minutes to install, works fine now.
took the microswitch out of old latch and it was all burnt up, must have happened when I was charging old battery.
Again, thanks for your help.
