That orange insert also looks used/well worn (probably much softer than when new)...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As the title says, I cant get the trans bushing support pressed in. Im using the orange one. I greased with silicone lube. The bottom tabs fit fine but the top one that looks like an I-beam wont go. Ive tried a rubber mallet and quick clamps. C-clamps wont work as theres plumbing in the way. Its stuck at about 2/3 the way in. Any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

I thought that there is a special tool for extracting and installing the bushing? Like the AGA Transmission Mount Tool?

POST 3Original post

Looking at this one, it appears that its supposed to fit inside the original bushing. Only thing I can think of is there is rubber in the gap where the lower pieces are designed to fit in.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought the title was clear but Im installing the function first insert, not replacing the OEM bushing. Heres the problem I even created my own makeshift press using wood blocks and the cross bolts. The top of the insert just wont fit. Pretty pissed. Seems like it may be oversized.

POST 5Original post

I remembered you have the tip so thats why I was interested in this. In theory a lot less work than pressing out the old and pressing in new.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17866253

Its a 6 speed. I just pulled it back out and sliced off some of the excess material. Its almost all the way in so Im going to try and fit the bracket back on and see if it works. Shaving down the other side now. This should be completely unnecessary.

POST 7Original post

Sorry, must have been one of the other local guys with a tip.

POST 8Original post

If the trans bushing was new it would just slide in. Over time the bushing deforms and the inserts r difficult to install.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17866277

I was thinking the same thing. Youd figure FF would either account for that or add a note in the instructions to that effect. I got the other side in. The best option was to use a pistol style quick clamp after shaving it down. The base flashing was causing me the most trouble. Heres a pic of the excess material at the base before I cut it away. I think the orange ones are probably more difficult to press in as they are a bit flaccid.

POST 10Original post

Yes, they can be difficult to insert. I used a rubber dead blow hammer to install one before and it was still very tight.

POST 11Original post

The inserts are designed to be used with a new/properly functioning (ie; not collapsed) bushing/mount. That orange insert also looks used/well worn (probably much softer than when new)... Dont be surprised if the performance is less than stellar...

POST 12Original post

Mine just pushed in with my thumbs. Fyi, the first set they sent me were not for my car and I had to send them back for different ones. The website had them labeled wrongly, hope they fixed that.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17866730

It was brand new. It just looked like in the photos crap from picking up grime after beating on it. My mount wasnt torn so it should have fit better. Hope it was worth it. Well see in the spring.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17866734

That could have been my problem. The basic design was correct. Just the top tab was oversized for the job. Its in there snug now so hope it does its job.

Uh, thats not brand new urethane... (new urethane doesnt have a crackle finish)...🙄
