Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Merely changing the instrument cluster part would not interfere with the mileage count of the ECU, however, the cluster's ability to display accurate milage I'd imagine would depend heavily on the model of cluster.

When you see a car without proper cluster and it was changed , will the ECU or is it the cluster that will show milage on odometer display of cluster?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When you see a car without proper cluster and it was changed , will the ECU or is it the cluster that will show milage on odometer display of cluster? So if you put a brand new cluster in, would it be zero miles or what the ECU recorded?

POST 2Original post

The actual mileage of the car is stored in the ECU. Some amount of tampering that is above my pay-grade would be required to change that number. Merely changing the instrument cluster part would not interfere with the mileage count of the ECU, however, the cluster's ability to display accurate milage I'd imagine would depend heavily on the model of cluster.

POST 3Original post

The ECU stores hours of operation not miles, the instrument cluster stores miles not hours of operation. A new instrument cluster will have 0 miles, but can be set to actual miles if done within the first 100 miles, and can only be done via PIWIS...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...911-turbo-166/ Would a 2001 turbo have the Turbo logo on Tach cluster, I know of one other that had it changed to 04 cluster under warranty, Clock was off a few minutes each month. I thought that only 2004 and 2005 had Turbo logo, but only by comparing all Porsche Turbos I seen thru Pics. not by any experts saying it was a fact.

POST 5Original post

The gauge faces can be changed easily. I believe only 2004-up Turbos have the Turbo script on the tach. Certainly my '01 and '03 don't have it - I wish they did.
