Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use cluster)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace others' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Suggestion
These LCDs are incredibly fragile and sensitive and have a tendency to get damage while replacing others.

If you get a new cluster, you can take the car to someone with a PIWIS in the first 50 miles and they can reset the ODO to your old cluster's value.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, I've recently had a new symbol appear on the instrument cluster of my 2000 C4 (manual transmission, originally sold in Canada).
I can't find it in my manual or searching online. Anyone know what it means?
Image attached. In case it doesn't come through, the symbol looks like a 3-blade fan with an "S" or an "E" above it. And it's just to the left of the clock.
ODB2 shows no errors.
Thanks,
Von
That's not a symbol. That's the beginnings of a snowflake
Your LCD is going bad. Your options are:
Ignore it.
New cluster ($2200 when I looked last year)
Have someone like VDORepair fix it ($500 if I recall)
DIY the LCD replacement (cost of a dead cluster)
Put someone else's cluster in (cost of a working used cluster)
The catch to the last option is that your odometer is in the cluster, so you'll have their miles, over revs, and other such things. There is a hack where someone shows how to DIY fix that, but it's not a simple thing to do.
VDORepair was pretty up front that once you crack the cluster open it a high possibility that more damage will occur. These LCDs are incredibly fragile and sensitive and have a tendency to get damage while replacing others. Unfortunately no one has been able to source new LCDs, so what you are getting is a used one of unknown condition (they will confirm it works and isn't snowflaked, but it could go bad on you again soon.

We had almost lost the tens place of our ODO and I was going to finally give in and fix it, then over night it cleared itself up. I've never read other reports of that happening. Typically it just progresses until the LCD is completely occluded.
My advice is to just ignore it for now since it's not impacting anything critical and do your research on your options.
Hi gnat, DBJoe996,
Thanks for the suggestions. To me it seems more crisp than I would expect a snowflake to be (the pictures don't do it justice - to me it definitely looks like a symbol of some sort). But in any case, I agree that if you're right, it's not worth touching the instrument cluster for such a little thing. I'll keep an eye on it and report back.
Thanks,
Von
