The "pin" extends properly when the doors are locked, but it appears I either have the incorrect fuel door (was replaced prior to my ownership), or I'm missing some hardware.

Suggestion

If there is no lock bar coming through the hole - you have to go behind the fender liner and replace the whole actuator maybe - I think that was about $50 on pelican ...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, All; As I'm past the engine miss / cam tensioner solenoid fun (P0301 / P1341), I'm now starting to enjoy my new-to-me 2001 C2. First off, I was lamenting because I had no owner's manual. Well, it occurred to me that I had not previously checked the PASSENGER's side storage area. Yup, lo and behold, it was there. Cross that item off my Christmas list. Next, I noticed that my fuel filler door would not lock. The "pin" extends properly when the doors are locked, but it appears I either have the incorrect fuel door (was replaced prior to my ownership), or I'm missing some hardware. If anyone can send a photo of what yours looks like, or if someone knows the specific parts I need, please advise. Please see attached pic to show what I have. Thanks; Carl

POST 2Original post

Do a google search for the Porsche 996 PET. It's a PDF that shows all of the components and associated part numbers along with pictorial diagrams. It should show you the missing piece and part number for the catch that's missing from your fuel door.

POST 3Original post

Looks like you are missing Item #7: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=801-40

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, islaTurbine & dbjoe; I found it in Pelican Parts based on the hint from islaTurbine. Gee.. a $4 part. My lucky day! Thanks again; Carl

POST 5Original post

There is a little nylon "guide" that sits in the hole the lock bar comes through - make sure yours is there (they get brittle and break over time). It is a $2 part from pelican or maybe similar at dealer and then you don't need to pay shipping. (If you take a pic that shows what is behind the rubber stopper on the lower left of the fuel door we will be able to see it- the hole faces the rear of the car). Once I replaced that part on mine - leave the fuel door open - lock and unlock the car with the remote - you should be able to see the long plastic bar go in and out .. Problem should be fixed at that point. If there is no lock bar coming through the hole - you have to go behind the fender liner and replace the whole actuator maybe - I think that was about $50 on pelican ...

POST 6Original post

Carl, check out 928sRUs too. He is based up in Double Oak. You'll pay TX tax but you won't pay shipping if you just pick up the orders at his house. His name is Roger Tyson and is a great guy. Roger knows me quite well.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lock bar works just fine, targa996. Just wasn't sure what was SUPPOSED to be there for it to engage. Wish all the fixes were this easy!

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 12709057

A lot of the fixes aren't much more difficult than this...the number of them that cost just $4, on the other hand...

POST 9Original post

Yeah. Order a new gas cap with a strap while you are at it. That should set you back less than $15.

POST 10Original post

Youre also possibly missing the air tyre pressure sticker although on some early 996s it's under frunk hood. Also missing the gas Ron rating sticker.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cuda911: Caught that tetherless cap, eh? ;-) Dan: OK; good point; I searched Pelican and Google for "porsche placards" but had no luck. Any suggestions on source. But then again, this is no concours trailer queen, so I don't *really* care if the placards are there or not, but if it was something I'd just toss into the cart when buying parts somewhere, I'd probably go for it. Tire pressures are in the frunk. No RON sticker though.... Carl
