so since this was no good I swapped the oil to liqou moly GT1 10w60, this solved all my problems, the oil pressure at hottest conditions and city traffic held up 1.1-1.2 so all cool, seemed that the engine also worked much better (ok just a feeling I believe) anyhow all well.

since summer I didn't like that in city at high temps the engine oil pressure gauge showed 0.5 and sometimes even lower (where the car stalled, I believe factory safety or something) no problems on highways I was using mobil1 5w30

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no intention to start the oil wars but have one question since summer I didn't like that in city at high temps the engine oil pressure gauge showed 0.5 and sometimes even lower (where the car stalled, I believe factory safety or something) no problems on highways I was using mobil1 5w30 so since this was no good I swapped the oil to liqou moly GT1 10w60, this solved all my problems, the oil pressure at hottest conditions and city traffic held up 1.1-1.2 so all cool, seemed that the engine also worked much better (ok just a feeling I believe) anyhow all well. performing perfectly and I have no fears of rewing it till the limiter - works good. just one small thing... the cold starts are now (at first as soon I swapped the oil) very smoky, blue smoke and burned up oil smell... that cannot be anything in engine itself, as the aos is disconnected and the heads have been redone new stem seals etc, so few blocks on the move and no more smoke, also throughout the rest of the day I can start it up no signs of smoke. also on the go - no smoke. so I was wondering could it be that a thicker oil is slower to drip down the cylinders and leaking through piston rings to the combustion chamber? (durng the night) I haven't noticed also any more oil consumption comparing the 5w30... any other opinions? explanations?

POST 2Original post

Neither of those viscosities are Porsche approved. You want 0W40 5W40 5W50 Pick one. But it appears you have other and bigger issues.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok the car will soon be put to standstill before that will measure compression and will change the oil in spring to see if there is any difference in the cold starts if engine would have any internal problems then that should be noticeable with previous oil. not overnight starting to smoke.

AOS should not be disconnected. This helps to lower pressure in the crankcase and prevents over pressure from forcing oil past the seals. It also helps remove the considerable amount of moisture that is a combustion byproduct. The 5w-30 was too thin at least at the high temp viscosity. There is the engine shutting down from perhaps too low oil pressure. With that low of oil pressure the oil jets that spray oil to the underside of the pistons were probably not working as these have a valve that if the pressure drops too low shuts off the flow of oil to the jets to provide more oil for the main/rod bearings. 'course while the main/rod bearings may be saved, this is at the expense of the cylinders/pistons/rings. Then to switch from too thin to too thick doesn't help matters any. The 10w-60 is too thick for cold starts and it is too thick for temperatures operation. In some cases the wrong oil can lead to bore scoring. This is most common when owners run a too thick an oil -- even 5w-40 can do it -- in areas where extreme cold is prevalent. Best get the right oil in the engine. Get the AOS hooked up and working properly. Then see how the engine behaves.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok the AOS will need to be replaced during winter anyway. will then swap the oil to 5-40 see how it goes then

POST 6Original post

Be aware if you intend to use the car during the winter and if you live/drive in cold climes you should use 0w-40. In temps -25C and below Porsche calls out 0w-40 oil. I would be inclined to run 0w-40 oil in winter even if the temperatures didn't get that low.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no the car won't be used during winter. it will be driven (if weather allows) til 1.12.2015 and then put to sleep.
