I'm running Windows XP on an old laptop because my BMW diagnostic program won't run on anything newer.

I took care of a lot of OS's throughout my work, and some of those computers are still running Windows XP because the offices were running software from the 90's and they didn't want to upgrade.

The old Toughbook CF28/29/30/31 were what Porsche used for the PIWIS tools...Probably because us old Techs were pretty ruff on tools....lol

The USB drivers for the dongle ask for permission, and when you give it permission it changes some security setting that puts the computer in a loop at boot up.

That took me to the internet and a microsoft web page where it recommended I turn off "Memory Integrity" in the security settings in order to run an older type driver, so I did that.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anybody get Durametric (latest version) to work in Windows 11? I have a new laptop, downloaded latest version of Durametric, installed USB drivers, but the software won't run. I've tried just about everything, run as administrator, run in compatibility mode, etc. Just doesn't work. Any ideas appreciated. Next up will be to contact Durametric for some guidance.
Yes, it works on my HP Spectre with Windows11 Home. I don't recall doing anything different to install it. This is a new laptop that came with W11. I've found 2 ways Durametric doesn't launch. 1) if the dongle isn't plugged in(always been the case) 2) if you are using the program and it crashes, it won't restart, you'll need to restart the computer. Sorry, not much help.
Here is some data I just took with it. It shows how low the voltage drops when your starter has the 'hot start' problem. This is from my Cayenne.
When I first hooked up the durametric I didn't pay attention to the system requirements, even though it was a newer laptop it didn't have fast enough hardware to connect to the car. I think it was Windows 11, but I'd have to check.
Probably not your issue, but figured I would throw it out there.
Remember....Windows 11. Now here is where I'm at. Plugged in the dongle and tried running Durametric. Up popped a warning that a driver for the dongle needed permission, so I clicked on "learn more". That took me to the internet and a microsoft web page where it recommended I turn off "Memory Integrity" in the security settings in order to run an older type driver, so I did that. Once I did that it popped up and said to restart the computer (laptop). Well of course...yeah.
Upon restart the start up screen looked different and the laptop said that the login PIN was not available, set up new PIN. Tried that, doesn't work. Won't take me to setup new PIN and won't bring up the screen to login with the Microsoft account. Spent hours Googling the problem and still haven't figured it out. New laptop is a brick right now. Background - I was a computer consultant for twenty plus years until I retired. I have recovered computers over the years with some pretty weird problems, but this one has me stumped (so far).
***Warning*** I should have followed my instincts and just used my old Windows 10 laptop for Durametric. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID AND TRY DURAMETRIC WITH WINDOWS 11. The USB drivers for the dongle ask for permission, and when you give it permission it changes some security setting that puts the computer in a loop at boot up.
Here is the solution for Windows 11 and my email to Durametric support...
In the latest version of Durametric 6.6.1.7, there is a driver incompatibility with Windows 11. There is a new feature in Windows 11 "Core Isolation" that prevents the application, driver specifically, from starting. I had to disable (OFF) the Core Isolation feature and reboot which then allows the driver to start. Subsequently, the Durametric application will start. Once Core Isolation has been turned OFF, it cannot be turned ON unless the driver is stopped or uninstalled.
Will this compatibility problem be corrected in a future Durametric version?
Thank you.
The best solution for running most car diagnostic software is to buy a cheap small laptop that runs an older version of windows and use that. With new OS's putting more emphasis on security and more granular permissions and other optimizations you'll run into issues, no doubt. I picked up a refurbished Lenovo for $200 and basically use it as a burner laptop and for car diagnostic software only. There is a reason why you see some shops using an ancient Dell with Windows 2000 on it for certain applications.
Quite correct. It worked fine on my old laptop, which I kept. I took care of a lot of OS's throughout my work, and some of those computers are still running Windows XP because the offices were running software from the 90's and they didn't want to upgrade. XP was the bomb..
I'm running Windows XP on an old laptop because my BMW diagnostic program won't run on anything newer. The laptop is a Dell that I bought brand new in 2001, it's the Energizer Bunny of laptops. 21 years later, it just keeps going and going.....
I purchased an older Toughbook CF31 on eBay last year with Windows 7 that actually had 0 hours on it.
It was in like-new condition.
I upgraded it to Windows 10 and it works great for my Durametric.
It replaced my ancient CF74.
I liked it so much, I use it instead of my work laptop for daily use.
Wish I could find another for the shop.

I have an old CF28 toughbook with W/XP dedicated to Durametric...
