The original radio has been replaced by a Pioneer double DIN radio which directly drives the original bose speakers (Front/back left and right), the original Bose amplifier is gone.

I did a similar setup with my 2001 C2 Cab, except I started with the HiFi option and replaced speakers with Focals and an alpine pdx-v9 5 channel amp driving them with a Kenwood head unit.

Hey fam,
I recently bought a 996 with Bose sound package. The original radio has been replaced by a Pioneer double DIN radio which directly drives the original bose speakers (Front/back left and right), the original Bose amplifier is gone.
This set-up leaves the Bose 'subwoofer' (the one in the parcel shelf, behind back seats) unused and the sounds very low in bass. I'd like to change that and consider to a) either revive the bose sub or b) to replace it.
For scenario a) : Has anyone done that before and could avise what kind of amp I need?
For b): Would probably go for something easy like a JBL Nano, to keep things simple and affordable. What do you think?

I've done exactly this! Revived what I had using this driver (It drops right in if you use some washers under the original screws).

-Dynamat the inside of the enclosure, DON'T add any poly fill. I ran a few simulations and it's an ideal enclosure volume with the new drivers.
-Bought this kicker amp and tapped into the preouts at the old sub amp. You can even make it easier by buying a spare sub amp and stealing the mating connector from it. The kicker amp should fit in the existing sub amp location.

-Wire the new drivers in series with this amp. Otherwise you lose a lot of gain control (potential for overdriving it)

Let me also share my approach back for future reference:
- Starting point: 996 C2 with bose system and an aftermarket double din radio. Front and rear speakers directly connected to radio (subwoofer omitted) --> mediocre sound at max
- My goal was to maintain as much as possible from the original bose system
- With that said, I decided to go for an ALPINE amp (Alpine S -A55v) and did a complete rewiring. Amp sits now in the front hood and replaced the original bose amp and disk changer
- The result is aboslutely mindblowing - have not expected that the sound of the bose system is so great, provided you power it with an appropriate amp
Next step is to potentially fill the subwoofer with cotton. Have read this here before. Seems to be good?
Potentially will also selectively change some of the drivers, but so far I am satisifed.

I bought a Bose subwoofer box from a 2003 Cab and retrofitted it with a shallow 8 inch Focal sub. The sub box in the cab is in the passenger footwell. Overall very pleased with the sound.
I went with the 3 way kit from Car Audio Innovations. It uses the Kevlar line with a component 4� woofer and 1� tweeter for the dash and a 5.25� woofer in the doors driven off 4 channels of an Alpine PDX V9 5 channel amp. I used the 5th channel to drive an 8� Focal slim sub in the Flax line iirc.

if youre in the NYC area, i have a custom sub box that uses 3
JL Audio 6W3v3-4 that fit behind the rear seats and lock in place w/ the rear seats up. i repurposed the speakers but the box is available for free
