However the receptacles that will be used, won't have the micro switch/contacts in them that the OE receptacles are fitted with.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I'm currently fitting a pair of Sparco seats to my 996. I'd like the seat belt and the buckle receptacle to be "inside" the seat, not "over" it, but I'm not prepared to pay the required Porsche "tax" to purchase two of the longer 997 GT2 buckle receptacles. I've spoken to a reputable seat belt manufacturer who will make me a pair of extended receptacles with either wire or seat belt webbing "stalks", either of which will be easier to thread through the harness holes in the seats (and yes, I accept I may/will need to two hands to fasten the belt buckle in to its receptacle if I go with the seat belt webbing version). However the receptacles that will be used, won't have the micro switch/contacts in them that the OE receptacles are fitted with. Can I just buy a cheap second hand seat belt receptacle off the Bay of E for the 2 pin multiplug connector and its wiring and then bridge/loop the two wires to fool the car into thinking the seat belt is plugged into its receptacle (effectively all the time) ? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

I measured the resistance across the pins with the lock engaged and got 104 ohms. Confirmed on the wiring diagram. These go to the airbag control units. The drivers side has 4 pins with 2 being closed contact that goes to the light on the cluster. I would suggest leaving the ones you have secured underneath the seats plugged in with the locks engaged. This way you insure things work properly. Or buy the correct ones.

POST 3Original post

Scratch everything I said as I see you are in the UK and that is the drivers seat belt lock. Yes it's a closed contact. I would put wire taps on wires B5 and B6 coming off the connector under the seat with a jumper between.

POST 4Original post

I bought 2 used seat belt receptacles off eBay and was planning on just stuffing them latched under my seats. Instead I removed the connector and soldered a resister across and heat shrinked to cause the computer to think the belt was latched. ~300ohm unlatched, ~100ohm latched I haven't yet purchased racing seats, but I now I don't have a seatbelt warning when I drive down the street from my mailbox to my house unbelted.

It seems ROW doesn't have the resistors only contact switch. And the passenger side has no wiring. This is from RHD wiring diagram

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all your input guys, it's much appreciated. The RHD UK cars only have two pins in the small square connector under the seat, so it appears the buckle receptacle contains literally nothing more than a switch (and looking into it, you can see the two spring loaded contacts that inserting the metallic buckle into completes the circuit) so as I'd hoped, it should just be a case of installing a loop across the wiring to/from the receptacle to fool the dash light.

POST 8Original post

It's interesting that UK cars have a much simpler seat belt warning system..... That along with no SAI and only 1 cam sensor for 996.1 cars and much looser emission requirements is some of the reason US cars were more expensive when new...

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
