It would be nice if it turned out to be a hose and didn't need the bumper removed to get to it.

U can inspect the hoses from the wheel wells if u pull the liners.

Looks like having my shop replace the right radiator would end up a grand or so with the parts.

I'd get it on a rack while running before pulling the bumper.

That's money I was hoping to use toward new iinjectors and water pump on this recent purchase that has had most everything else typically replaced - plugs, coils, brakes, AOS, mass air sensor, belt, fluids, tires all done.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently started to notice the smell of coolant after parking my '05 CS4 fully warmed up. As I walked around the car, could swear it is strongest around the front passenger side. Felt under that bumper area for any wet - dry, and haven't noticed any drips under the car - garage floor dry. Checked the reservoir, shows down a bit, just above the min mark. Any ideas on any common or likely source - right radiator, coolant lines?
Thanks, for the replies. It would be nice if it turned out to be a hose and didn't need the bumper removed to get to it. But maybe the bumper needs to come off to get to the hoses anyway?

Welcome to 17 yo Porsche ownership!
i would guess its 3-4hr of work but the book rate is probably showing 7hrs. The parts r $250. Find your self a decent indy or a friend. Its a simple repair. Its not an issue u want to ignore.

Thanks, I use a good indy shop in Sewell NJ. Bono Motorsports. Mike does all the region 1 PCA member's track and road car work and kept my '99 986 running well.
Yeah, definitely won't ignore it. Checking my level everytime I drive it and keeping it topped up. Only has gone down about a cup's worth after a few hrs driving.
If I can get it up on a friend's lift to look under, do you know if the bottom hose or bottom of rad is visible without spoiler or bumper removal?
You'll have to pull the bumper to get to the hoses.
But pulling the bumper is simple.
Just need phillipshead screwdriver, plastic clip pry tool(can be flathead screwdriver in a pinch) and a socket set.
IIRC you will also need to pull the wheel and remove the fender liner to see both ends.
U can inspect the hoses from the wheel wells if u pull the liners. Its just worth putting it on the lift, my guess is u will see green on the fins by the side plastic tank connection after u pull all the sthff to the side.
