Hi, I'm looking for a machine shop in Nashville to do cylinder head work on my Boxster 986. Has anyone used a shop in Nashville or heard of an M96 familiar shop?
Many thanks.
OP - You might call German Performance Options and see if they know anyone, but don’t count on anybody in middle TN being competent doing M96/97 head work.
Thanks and it's really only resurfacing and a couple stripped cam bearing threads. Well, so far anyway but every time I breathe in the same room with this car, problems arise!
send it to Len Hoffman for repair in Georgia at Hoffman Automotive.. its about a 5 hour drive from us.. they are M9X cylinder repair and performance experts
i spoke to him when I thought the head was cracked and he quoted me around $875 just for a basic renewal, I think for one head as I was only doing the head that was leaking. I didn't ask what that included because I thought it was too much money.
This car isn't worth that much. Ok, it is, but it shouldn't be. Still, that's a ton of money for basic head work. I'm looking for a couple hundred bucks to do a simple resurface, removing a broken bolt, and fixing a stripped bolt hole.
I'm sure he does a lot more and while it's out and it would be worth it to have it looked over.. small price to pay for piece of mind it been done right and gone through..just my thoughts..
Perhaps you havent heard yet, but the 996 is a veritable gold mine on wheels according to some folks around here...Just give it another year or so and your car will double in value - then $875 for your head work wont seem so high
There is the Headworks of Nashville. Which is where my parts guy at NAPA said to take the heads off of a 73 Mercedes SLC. Haven't dropped it off yet, but that's where it's going.
Shacklette Machine shop has a bunch of engines over there. It's where the block was boiled/cleaned for the MB above. They did good work and the shop was set up like a company that works on lots of engines for a long time. Family run business. Good folks.
I'm sending my engine off to LN. They will take care of the heads. However, if I were to get my engine rebuilt locally I would still send the heads off to a Porsche specialists. One in GA, and the other is in CO.
PM me is needed.
