I will be using this to charge my now drained battery (wheel repair) and then to keep the battery charged throughout the winter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had a daily driver and some sort of 'nice car' (ranging from prelude, to STI, to NSX, to now the 996tt) for most of my adult life so the struggle of having to deal with various dead batteries in march is one I am glad to be rid of. I am now a home owner and I got one of these CTEK 3300s w/ the lighter adapter today; I have a couple of questions. 1. I will be using this to charge my now drained battery (wheel repair) and then to keep the battery charged throughout the winter. My garage is not heated and I'm in the midwest so things will get rather cold. Is it ok to leave this attached the battery when the temperature drops below freezing (the directions say not to charge a frozen battery; I would assume this will keep the battery above freezing but I am not sure). 2. The directions also mention the battery will emit gas while charging, does this actually create enough gas that I will need to crack a window or keep my garage door open? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Sorry I can't answer your questions as I start and use my car year round. I do not use a trickle charger but Gees how cold does your garage get during the winter? Wouldn't it be simpler to remove the battery from the car and leave it in a closet inside the house for the winter months. Then give it a full charge in the spring? Have your radio number on hand before removing the battery.

POST 3Original post

Leave it on "trickle" until spring. Your battery will not freeze while in the garage while on a battery maintainer, unless the garage gets to ~ -75 or so.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The garage is separated from the house. thanks guys!
