Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a silver 996, and for purely comestic intentions would like to convert the black brake caliper on my C2, to that of the red color standard on the Boxster S. Does anyone know if it is a direct fit? All the magazines claim that the Boxster S shares the same brake system setup as the 996. Anyone know the price? (though I will check with the dealership as well). Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

FWIW, you can have your calipers professionally painted for less than buying new ones. If that is not an option for you, then the Boxster S calipers will work on your 996.

POST 3Original post

True, red Box S calipers (whole brake system) are straight from 996 parts bin. Post and see if anyone wants to swap. I personally think there should be someone out there who doesn't like their red ones and would rather have black, like on yellow, silver, blue cars where the red doesn't match well IMO.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mark, Good point. I'll post a swap on the boxster board.

POST 5Original post

I'm not so sure that the brakes are a direct swap. A friend with a Boxter S needed rear pads at a DE event. The factory 996 pads I had in my toolbox were slightly bigger than his. As I recall, I think he was told by the service department that the fronts are the same but the rears are different. I guess it would make sense give the difference in weight distribution.

POST 6Original post

There are also the red GT3 calipers and rotors if you are interested in a performance as well as a visual upgrade. The rears fit a stock 996, the fronts require installing the beefier front uprights from the GT3. All parts are available from most of the performance oriented aftermarket houses. Karl
