Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Replaced the battery with a new H7 Platinum AGM since the overcharging had caused my old battery to his and swell and replaced the + battery lead.

I changed the brake switch and now it works perfect.

Suggestion
Use the bent wire trick to check the voltage at the alternator.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
after I fired up my 996 after its winterdwell my battery was completely drained. Had to buy new one and change it.
When I had it replaced and start to drive I got psm failure and abs light turned on. I read somewhere that it was common after battery replacement but it should turn off after u drive the car for a while.
i drove it like 30km, was still on after many restarts.
then suddenly they went both off for like 10minutes driving, but came back on again.
anyone have a clue what the failure can be?
Here's an update to my ABS/Battery light issue:
-Ordered an OEM Y cable and replaced it. Original wasn't corroded on either terminal, but it looked like it had been hot in the middle.
-Checked the engine frame ground strap behind the right rear wheel. No problem - looks mint.
-Looked under the plastic cover where the + cable comes off the battery and bolts to the firewall. AHA! The end was all corroded and frayed! Replaced the battery with a new H7 Platinum AGM since the overcharging had caused my old battery to his and swell and replaced the + battery lead.
-Now I don't have the erratic voltage swings or flickering dash lights and AC shutoff. Unfortunately I'm consistently not getting more than around 11.8 volts everywhere I've checked it - off the battery, at the jump terminal on the engine or in the gauge cluster. The car performs as normal (windows, headlights, AC/heat - everything is working properly with the new strong battery), but obviously it's not topping off the battery.
-OBD is giving me P1600 "low voltage - alternator is faulty" error. Prompted me to rev to 2,000rpm with headlights on for 20 seconds before coming to that conclusion.
QUESTION: I'm going to try the bent wire trick to test the voltage coming directly off the back of the alternator and if it shows 13-14 volts where could the voltage drop be? No fuses are blown, but I've heard stories about brake light switch? If it turns out I'm only getting 11.8V off the alternator, then I got a bad remanufactured Bosch alternator/regulator from FCP Euro and the whole problem was probably caused by the corroded + battery lead and my original alternator was fine. This seems to make the most sense...
If you hadn't replaced the starter/alternator cable (you called it the Y cable?), I'd say that was the problem. Use the bent wire trick to check the voltage at the alternator. If it is 14v, and you already measured the voltage at the Jump point, then the starter/alternator cable is bad.
