They appeared to be slightly stripped already and now they are toast and I am supposed to clean the unit before a test drive tomorrow with my new engine.

Suggestion

Not familiar with the part/bolts (not on the mk2) but as a first try, if no replacements are available, you might run a tap over them.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I absolutely f@&$ked my ICV bolts. They appeared to be slightly stripped already and now they are toast and I am supposed to clean the unit before a test drive tomorrow with my new engine. Not sure what to do now, but I am a frustrated to the highest degree I have ever been. I feel like I always need someone holding my hand when I work on this damn car. Any input is appreciated. Thanks! Mason

POST 2Original post

POST 3Original post

Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, etc., have vast stocks of replacement bolts. The ICV bolts are just simple metric bolts/screws. You can use any simple matching bolts/screws to snug it up. It doesn't have to be a perfect match for the head, just a match on bolt size and thread.

POST 5Original post

yeah I'm not getting the angst here. If they are tight on the TB and the torx head is stripped, a set of vice grips should get them off no problem.

POST 6Original post

Here is the bolt spec hexagon-head bolt m 6 x 32 / pan-head screw m 6 x 32

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you gents. I am sorry for my angst, as I was pretty upset yesterday. I am far from a mechanical person and I seem to do more harm than good. I am glad to know that the bolts can be easily sourced from a regular hardware store. I will try the vice grips method. I noticed that almost no suppliers are selling Porsche branded ICV's and many are not selling any units at all, other than the gasket. If it were to come down to replacing it, is the Bosch unit considered equivalent, or is this one of the parts that a Porsche branded unit is absolutely necessary (much like the MAF)? I cannot seem to find any threads specifying this.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you very much, DJBoe996. I will definitely be picking up some new hardware.

Sorry Bill! You know how these cars can make some people... Especially when I just want to drive my new street performer. Maybe I need to spend some time in Hawaii and relax

Righty tighty, lefty loosey

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Awesome advice haha but this was easily remedied. Truth is, I was extremely stressed post-engine rebuild because I am not a technical person and troubleshooting things was taking me to the limit. Just needed to start diving into more projects on the car, which I have done and I am gaining experience and confidence.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 17699487

you did your own engine rebuild?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17700798

Nope. Flat 6 Innovations did the rebuild, but a friend and I dropped and installed the engine. Most stressful and fulfilling thing I have done on this car.

POST 14Original post

Why dont you take the new HPFP off and have a look at the back of the cam, and the pump? Not based on anything except for conjecture. But if the pump locked up and broke the pump shaft, it would make quite a racket. I think the engine would probably still idle on the low pressure fuel pumps. Was this a new pump from a reputable seller? Or an eBay China special new pump? I seem to remember one other poster in South America breaking a camshaft after replacing his pump with a China pump.
