Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Regardless, check its condition before going forward
Leading evidence: 'Check its condition' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check its condition' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have tried to reset the windows according to the procedure I found (something like holding the button up/down for 10 seconds) but nothing happens.

The brushes get clogged with carbon, once cleaned and with fresh grease on the gears it should run like new.

I use the ctek one that Porsche sells, branded, for quite a bit more, when the car might sit.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

During winter storage of my 996 c2 2002 the driver side (left) window dropped completely. I cannot raise it again with the button. The passenger window doesnt respond to pressing the switch either but the window drops a little bit when I open the door. I dont hear any sounds at all from the doors.
when I try to activate the alarm I get a double beep and the alarm wont activate.
I couldnt read any fault codes since my computer crashed but I am going to do that next week.
Any ideas?
Robert
Yes it is likely dead. And they are bloody expensive.
I remember buying diehard batteries that lasted 5 or 6 years. Now, batteries are big revenue, they sell them all day long, and you're lucky to get 2 or 3 years daily driving. Even on trickle charger they lose oomph. I use the ctek one that Porsche sells, branded, for quite a bit more, when the car might sit.
Rant warning!
And another thing automakers, why on earth in a modern car, can't we get decent built in battery health status? Even in my PHEV, the 12v system is old fashioned and necessary. Why can I charge my lithium drive batteries, while I'm driving even, but the 12v depends on the alternator? How can I know exactly how many miles range I have, but I can't get a warning that my 12v battery is going to die? Instead, they just stop working. Hopefully where you can get a replacement. /Rant
yes, the battery died and I have replaced it. But that has happened before without any strange behavior.
do I need to reset something ? And why does the window go down ?
There is a window reset. My 996 is long gone but, from memory, try holding window buttons down, once windows are lowered keep holding for 10 seconds then release. Hold buttons up, once raised keep holding for 10 seconds. Maybe check your manual if that doesnt work
I have tried to reset the windows according to the procedure I found (something like holding the button up/down for 10 seconds) but nothing happens. The driver side window is down and the passenger window is up any neither of the buttons work. The passenger window drops slightly when I use the handle (as it should). No fault codes with a Durametric.
where do I start looking for the reason?
Robert
I am thinking about one thing I had somebody help me to charge the battery during the winter storage. What if somebody by mistake switched the polarity of the charger? Could that explain the problems I have?
Robert
Honestly, considering where your problems appear to have started, I would be very suspicious of the battery. Does the car crank easily and drive? Also, what is the condition of the control module under the seat? Any damp?
I tried to read the fault codes again after I pressed the key (I think that I cleared the codes before and didnt press the key, that is why I didnt get any codes).
I get fault codes 59 and 34 in alarm I32 and alarm I48. What is the difference between I32 and I48?
Robert
I have had a Porsche Center diagnose my car. They say it is the motor for the power windows (or rather some of the electronics attached to the motor). The motor has to be replaced. They are very expensive so I have opted for a used one. The Porsche Center is doing the job for me.
I am just curious, since my window was down I couldnt reach or remove the power window motor. Does anybody know how you get the window up without the motor? The only descriptions I have seen on the Internet are when the wires to the mechanism are broken. Then it is of course easy to raise the window but what about when everything works except the motor like in my case? Or is it possible to remove the motor somehow with the window all the way down?
Robert
The motors can be refurbished, search on this forum for my post. The brushes get clogged with carbon, once cleaned and with fresh grease on the gears it should run like new. A used one without being refurbished will likely do the same thing again
