Suggestion

Wouldn't fit Feal coilovers, so I test fit them on the old factory shock mounts and they wouldn't fit there either.

A sacrificial nut, a vice, a cutting disc, safety glasses plus 10 mins to ensure the car handles as Mr Porsche intended seems like a good use of time to me.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I noticed my car's swaybar links were worn. After plenty of research I decided to buy TRW parts as these have been mentioned in multiple places as the OEM suppliers to Porsche. Experience has told me to be cautious as fitting even the simplest non-branded parts require attention because the same quality control procedures as delivering the parts directly to Porsche are not always adhered to. As pictured, the TRW part bolt is 2-3mm longer than oem. I carefully tried mounting to the car and indeed the TRW bolt end was fouling the strut! I'm not sure if I bought a bad batch but I have found that non oem branded parts sometimes require 'finagling' in order to fit. I have not fitted the front links yet, so I will report to this thread if a similar issue occurs. If this issue affects you must either return the item or shorten the bolt as I did. See Photos below.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For the sake of completeness I thought I would update this thread to report the front TRW droplinks are similarly 3mm longer than OEM. However this time it is not a problem as the longer thread is not hitting anything, it just overhangs the end of the sway bar a little bit more.

POST 3Original post

SKP rear drop links suck too! I tried to install some on a 2000 C4 last year and they didn’t fit.

POST 4Original post

Was that rear shock not OEM? My stock links are 25mm and there is 30mm of depth at the shock. 01 C2

I think the shocks are OEM. They certainly look like they have covered the 69k miles the odometer is reading and I have no record from the PO that they have been replaced. I'm pretty sure they have the OEM stickers on them too. Mine was built early 1998 (registered 1999) so maybe there was a different supplier at that time? This seems like a plausible reason why this brand doesn't fit my car. As the pictures show, my OEM droplink bolts are shorter too...

POST 6Original post

Thanks for the heads up! I was going to order new TRW drop links for s a set of Eibach sway bars I have coming in so I'll have to measure the bolt length when they come in.

POST 7Original post

The drop links "suck" because the bolts are 3mm longer? Wow... you guys are harsh...I could see if there was play in the ball joints or if the threads were bad. How about putting a washer under the nut? While I appreciate the work/time you took to cut off the three threads and chamfer the end of the bolt, I find it a little over the top - but if it floats your boat, by all means go for it!

A 3mm washer !?! That would change the pivot angle by a degree or two and certainly alter the roll resistance or limits of the link ! As the twist is supposed to happen in a specific way this might affect handling in a dramatic way . What is wrong with cutting the thread? A sacrificial nut, a vice, a cutting disc, safety glasses plus 10 mins to ensure the car handles as Mr Porsche intended seems like a good use of time to me. It is better than having the longer bolt poke a dent or hole in the shock housing....

POST 9Original post

I think the SKP was more than 3mm too long. If I recall correctly they were closer to 10mm too long. Wouldn't fit Feal coilovers, so I test fit them on the old factory shock mounts and they wouldn't fit there either. I had to re-install the old factory ones, but at least they fit correctly!
