Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Wasn't sure about white until after the purchase, wife pushed me into it over a less clean arena red car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My first Porsche was a 2002 Targa in Lapis Blue, which I bought new. Since then Ive had all manner of newer carsBMW, Audi, and Porsche.
I just picked up a very clean low miles 2002 C2 manual in Carrera White Metallic w/Natural Brown full leather interior, which I bought from the pics and specs and had shipped to me.
What an astonishing feeling getting into it and driving it for the first time. Like going home. After years of newer faster higher tech cars, the lovely direct simplicity of the 996, its compact size, that feeling that your sitting a little more ON the car instead of deep inside, the sound, the direct steering feel, and the suppleness of the ride, even the smell.. Wow.
What great value for experience.
And the looks, too. I dont know why people dislike these cars looks. I think its design has aged very well. Even the interior to me seems way better looking than the 997 generation the proceeded it.
a few pics....
I used to be one of these people. I absolutely hated the headlights on the 996s and said I'd never get one even if it was my only opportunity to ever own a Porsche. Well one day, one appeared in our showroom floor from a customer trade in. All it took was one test drive and well here I am over a year later and I hardly even notice them anymore.
I'm a sucker for white and with the .2 headlights, which seems like a pretty uncommon setup, I am really digging. The natural brown is so much better than the regular beige too.
I think you did great, really like it.
If I were to give unsolicited suggestions on how I would turn it to 11:
Drop it
PC the wheels gunmetal, add spacers for stance. Or... scrap that and throw on some aggressive fitment wheels and tires, APEX in the anthracite would look sweet.
Forgot to mention, the car just had the LN IMS fix preventatively, new clutch and RMS. So all set there.
I plan to keep it stock. Its currently unadulterated and I love it. With the values heading up, a clean low mileage good service history example like this only stands to be harmed by 3rd party mods, IMO. Though certainly to each his own and maybe Id be more open to that suggestion on a high miles car.
if I wanted to chase top performance Ill just jump into my 2016 Boxster Spyder which can runs circles around this for sure.
If youre late for a hairdressing appointment definitely take the Boxster.
just kidding
Congrats on the new 996
White is definitely a rare color for a 996.2 and it looks great 👍
Not for nothing, it takes about an hour to swap coilovers and wheels once the car is in the air, hardly something that cant be undone in an afternoon and parts resold.
I was not mentioning for performance, just aesthetics.
Anyway - as you said, to each their own - its a beautiful car.
What a great opening post! I'm reading it the day after I agreed to terms to acquire an '03 C4S. I'll be getting back into the seat after a 14 year hiatus and reading your post got me even more excited to take delivery. Best of luck on your purchase! Awesome looking car! Enjoy in good health.
Welcome back to the 996! White is my color as well. It look great. It's cool to hear that you've driven newer performance cars and chose to come back to the 996. I totally agree that you feel like part of the car when you are driving it. It does what you want, when you want.
While I do really like white on a 996 I just happened to buy a 2002 Lapis Blue Targa. It's coded as a Market launch or dealer demo car. The hatch adds some weight but is super functional.
Wasn't sure about white until after the purchase, wife pushed me into it over a less clean arena red car. Tough call but no regrets. Also white is faster than all other 996's.
Arena red is a nice color but besides black red is the worst color to maintain. White is up there is my favorite color for a car, just so much easier to maintain.
Totally agree. A little known fact that all of us white 996 owners should be careful to divulge. Or maybe we shouldn't and watch the values of white 996's go non-linear on BAT!
I've had white cars before, and people always asked why I would own one, aren't they impossible to keep clean?
White is one of the easiest colors to keep looking clean.
SO MUCH easier than a black car.
When I was searching for my 996, I was looking for one in red, white or silver.
I'd found a red 996 in Ft Worth, and was planning a trip the next weekend to take a look when my Seal Grey 996 popped up for sale on the local PCA Facebook page.
My wife was relieved when I bought a grey one.
She said she though it was much better than red. :O
If I were searching now, white, speed yellow, or seal gray would be my choices.
