Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I removed the entire strut assembly when I installed Feal coil overs on a C4.
Leading evidence: 'Install feal coil overs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect caliper and hang' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just curious if the only way to replace the front struts on a C4S is to remove the strut assembly from the car? I am using my Bentley book. On my Boxster I did not have to. Maybe the AWD changes the procedure.
Thanks,
David
If you mean "assembly" as in spring and shock, then yes then the two both come out at the same time.
Hub and drive start can stay connected but detaching the tie rod end and control arm & plate helps angle the whole thing out a bit to slide the shock/spring out.
It's easy to remove the bolts from the inner CV joint attached to the differential to allow the wheel carrier to move enough to remove the strut assembly.
I removed the entire strut assembly when I installed Feal coil overs on a C4.
I didn't have to remove the axle shaft, just disconnect it from the diff.
Not a difficult job, just 12 more bolts more than the C2.
Reattach the CV Joint before mounting the rest of the suspension components.
So I am running through my checklist. This sound correct?
1) Disconnect caliper and hang to side.
2) Loosen bolt on the wish bone that connects to cross member noting where the bolt lined up.
3)Remove bolt and disconnect control arm from wish bone
4)Remove bolts from differential
5) Disconnect drop link to stut
6) Remove 3 bolts from strut mount and lower.
7) Put on spring compressor and slide under fender and remove.
When putting back together, when I retighten the wishbone bolt, raise the wishbone as is the car is level and then tighten.
0) Before starting put painters tape on the outside edge of the fender. This will prevent scratches if you bump it while taking the strut out, or putting it back in. I do this with every car I do, not just Porsches.
2) Don't worry about where the bolt was lined up, just use a torque wrench when re-installing.
You're going to need an alignment afterwards regardless.
6) I mark the 3 holes with a china marker so I can reinstall and have the camber about what it was to begin with.
Don't worry too much, as you'll need an alignment anyways.
This is just to get it to the alignment shop.
7) I've never needed a spring compressor to remove the front struts of a C2 or C4.
I assume you won't need it for a C4S either.
You'll just need it after you remove the strut assembly from the car.
Any special order when doing the front.
Back I think is Just:
remove drop link from strut.
remove bolt on bottom of strut
remove 3 nuts on mount.
That correct? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
Not really, except when you're going back together, reattach the CV-joint first.
Correct!
Make sure you have a ball joint removal tool:
And also one of these Spindle spreaders:

It's for a BMW, and you don't always need one, but when you do, you REALLY need it.
It sure made the last suspension swap on a C4 MUCH easier!
