Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Maybe we can catalogue a significant number of locations/methods/outcomes to have a repository of information? Going through so many of the M96/M97 engine threads, I’ve read a bazillion posts about devilish, untraceable and obvious, fine or large, simple and complex vacuum leaks that wreak havoc on the community. The nefariously tight engine space makes finding one or all of the culprits quite challenging. I can imagine the huge sums of money, bashed hands and heads sacrificed for all the real and imagined vacuum issues we’ve experienced I recently tracked my leaks to a couple of locations. I had post cat codes appearing and one of the 997 posters mentioned these are generally post-throttle body. I bought a smoke machine and found my AOS to TB o-ring was bad. Fixed. Dipstick would sometimes pop out just a little, and not all the time. Replaced the stick with a correct 996.2 version from the Porsche vault and all is well. Oil cap was wonky and difficult to tighten. Bought a new ring and what a difference. There are red and green o-rings. Don’t know if there’s any significant performance or longevity difference. These were found after replacing a bad oil filler tube seal, checking every single vacuum line run, etc. No troubles for the last 150 miles. Smoke machine is right up there with a pressure bleeder for cost/benefit ratio!
