Did you replace the ORVR vent valve on top of the fuel tank,,or the purge vent valve on the engine.??

When I first acquired my 2000 996 it would occasionally throw a code which mu indy said was a tank venting issue, this went on for some time so I bought a code reader to clear it when ever it came. The indy had said I would probably need a new fuel line vent valve at some point. Getting tired of the code all the time, I bought & installed a new vent valve. Soon after when trying to fill the tank, the fuel just burbs back out. Having moved, went to a new indy and had them replace the valve. Still have the same problem. Suggestions on where to look next? Thanks

I helped someone with a 2000 996 that had the same issue. He also had problems filling up his gas tank. He had replaced the vent valve(DIY) before bringing it to me. I disconnected and cleared all of the vent/charcoal lines using compressed nitrogen. ( Don't use an air-compressor! ) Some gunk flew out of one of the lines. He still had the CEL come on a few weeks later, so he replaced the vent valve again (DIY) and that finally solved the issue. I'm guessing some gunk had already clogged the vent valve. Try disconnecting all the plastic lines, and use compressed nitrogen( NOT AIR) to clear the lines. If that fails, consider replacing the vent valve again and make sure you use a quality part.
