Easy to test, set fan on high, turn off then restart, repeat in off position etc.

I've noticed at the track that I will set the fan to 'off', but when I restart for the next session, the system is back on - I have to manually turn it off each session.

I don't know of a way. But it must come on for a very good reason. Mine does the same. I simply lower the manual to the off position if I don't want it on after I start the engine.

If I turn mine off before shutting the car off, it stays off when I restart it. It only stays in if I shut the car off with it on. 04 C4S.

^^ same as above on my 99 C2. I believe the system is designed for last use state. Easy to test, set fan on high, turn off then restart, repeat in off position etc. and see what happens at each cycle.

I concur. If I leave it in any ON state, it will start in that state. If I turn it OFF, it will turn ON when I restart. I just leave it with the fan on the lowest setting, with the UP arrow so it's going to the windshield... almost off, but not quite.

My 2001 996 turns on the AC on every new key on... I shut it off and she comes back on on the next full start!
