I followed the instructions and everything went as planned as coolant filled the system and the pressure gauge gradually returned to zero.

Suggestion

As for your original concern: it's pretty darn unlikely that you're going to get vacuum cavitation with an AirLift...and you're definitely not going to ruin the properties of the coolant using the AirLift.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I followed the instructions and everything went as planned as coolant filled the system and the pressure gauge gradually returned to zero. To be on the safe side (!?) I decided to pull more vacuum and see if it would take any more coolant. With the system mostly full of coolant at ~30*F, I pulled 40 psi of vacuum a second time. Must have been too much vacuum because the coolant in the system began to boil. Did I mess it up? Do I have to start over now from a dry system? Or will the coolant vapour I inadvertently created condense back to liquid leaving no gaps behind?

Most of what you are saying makes absolutely no sense. But no, you did not mess anything up. When it was done the first time the system was completely full assuming you did it correct. Once it was done and the system was full their was no air left in the system. When you decided to "try it again" with a full system your were pulling some coolant back out with the venturi effect. follow the instructions. No more, no less. If you are concerned about any minimal amount of air, open the bleeder on the top of the expansion tank and go for a 10 mile drive. then let it cool down, top off and close the valve. all will be fine.

POST 3Original post

As said by Mbrem1979... follow the directions and you will be fine. I have used mine a few times on a few different cars/trucks and have had ZERO issues... PS one tip... always make a little more coolant mix... you never really know how much you will suck into the motor... if you are short it will catch some air from your bucket. Just take any extract coolant and put it back into a container and label and date it. Its always good to have a little extra for when you need to top it off here and there...

POST 5Original post

Hope i didn't come off harsh. Wasn't my intent. Being a mechanic i forget that what is second nature to me is not to others. I have seen many techs whom have never owned a air lift do the same thing. Guess its all part of the learning curve that i have long forgotten. For anyone reading this in the future, Do NOT attempt to do it again once the system is full.

POST 8Original post

1 year and 6K mile follow up on coolant level drop. After two HPDE events in the fall added another ~150 ml of coolant and level has stabilized. Blackstone oil sample in December was clean. Only explanation I have is it takes a while to purge air out of the cooling system after a repair.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, it was. After following the instructions in this thread I had no trouble.
