I remember in another thread GC996 was talking about how he has experimented with a lot of tires on his 996 and expected that another members lap times would drop by about 3 seconds (if I remember correctly) just by using Cup 2s over PS4S.

Using proxies which are a 100 w tire will give you another second over the sport cups then they get greasy after about 5-6 laps.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I managed to get a set of 996.2 GT3 wheels for my car for an amazing deal :-). Now what is terrible where I live (Austria/Slovakia) is the fact that I can only find the following tires in the factory spec;
Continental ContiSportContact 2
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
The car is being built for track and what can I say, I always wanted to own a pair of Cup 2's, but the thing is the price of 4S considering the cost of 4 tires vs. Cup 2's is like 80 dollars. I have never considered the continentals and would prefer to stick to Michelin.
Any input welcome! Plus I welcome low wet performance, means when it's wet outside I will do some skids :-D

Vect, given your list and track parameters I would go Cup 2s, assuming you are referencing Cup 2 Connect the 240 weight tire.
Cup 2s wil be substantially faster on track than 4S and Contis. The 4S and Contis are street tires and will be better in wet weather. None of the 3 tires like cold weather.
If you go with the Sport Cups, make sure you put in 2 warm-up laps with a 2 mile track and 1 warm-up lap with a four mile track before starting to push it. Obviously air and track temps will come into play. The colder the weather, the more warm up time you will need to put in.
Bottom line is that tire selection make a difference on the track.
I hear you. They are very expensive. Would like to see a track test comparing the Sport Cup 2 Connects against the Falken 660s. But none has yet materialised. Don't know if Falken is afraid to provide the tire or Michelin is exerting their weight and putting pressure on the tester to not compare the 2 tires.
PS4S are great street tires, and I will continue to use them on my daily 996, but for the track GC996 is exactly right, the Cup 2's are what you want and definitely worth the extra cost.
I remember in another thread GC996 was talking about how he has experimented with a lot of tires on his 996 and expected that another members lap times would drop by about 3 seconds (if I remember correctly) just by using Cup 2s over PS4S.
Yeah, no question. You will probably shave 2 seconds on a 2 mile track using sport cups over 4s. Using proxies which are a 100 w tire will give you another second over the sport cups then they get greasy after about 5-6 laps. Hoosiers another 2 seconds.
Obviously times will depend on how advanced of a driver you are. If you are starting out, sport cups will give you everything that you need.
But...once you try out a set of Hoosiers, you will create an addiction that is very difficult to stop. Dont say i didnt warn you...
