POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I have several small questions about what is normal and what is not. My 996.2 C2 has modified interior (leather and alcantara everywhere, carbon fiber instead of plastic panels), modified exterior (TechArt wide body kit), Bilstein B6's and full powerflex suspension. SO: 1. Does your 911 also give a feeling that brakes are poor (stiff pedal) but actually stops perfect? 2. Do you feel even small bumps on a road? 3. On bumpy road interior is not rock-solid and there are silent ticks/cracks on bumps coming from the panels. Do you experience the same? 4. On high speed (over 110 mph) front axis feels very light and when you brake hard there's lack of front wheel grip. On a bumpy road I often experience ABS being involved into braking because of "flying" front end. Does your 911 do the same? 5. When leaving the parking place in the morning after a cold night car understeer at 3 mph when front wheels have serious turn angle. Is it normal? 6. Does your 911 also attract tons of kids making pictures? Thanks!

Yes to everything. When i first purchased it the brakes were concerning. After a few track events you realize the actually work amazing. My high speed light front end was improved with aftermarket suspension and an alignment.

POST 3Original post

Yes to all of those questions, although I don't get many pictures On a serious note, however, it's relieving to know I'm the only one who was a bit concerned with the brakes.

POST 6Original post

Alex - Yes to all. My front felt light at higher speeds so I added GT3 lip to my non-aero front and that fixed the balance. With your body kit you may have a bit more downforce on the rear. Try dropping fronts to 248 kpa (36psi) and rears at 276 (40 psi) cold if you run pressures higher than that right now. I think you need just a little more front downforce for the “light” front. You may need a little more rake to get the nose a centimeter or more down. Just some thoughts...

POST 9Original post

No disrespect, how long you been driving a 911? Your car is trick no doubt, but there is a learning curve that remedies most of your issues. Remember, it is suppose to feel like a HP sports car. Drive everyday and pay attention to what you feel. You will soon come to appreciate it!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I'll try to play with the tyre pressure. Current values are slightly higher. And you're right, the wide body kit includes rear spoiler that seems to be working.

POST 12Original post

Was your car every in a mayor collision?

POST 13Original post

I think my brakes feel perfect. U may want to do a fluid flush with one if the higher end fluids and see if they feel different. Also i can brake hard at 120mph into an over the top right hander and the car sticks like glue to the road. I would really go through the front end for worn parts including shocks and springs. Remember the rubber in these cars are around 20yrs old even if it looks good it may not be. In a weird way the motor and trans mounts will also have an effect on the suspension.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 16616164

Did you use the GT3 lip or the GT3 Cup lip? My car is much better after the coilovers and new tires, but I still feel like there is some room for aero improvement at speed. Im looking to get a front lip, as well.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16616620

Springs are standard, shocks are new. I've also tried new H&Rs (see photos) and experienced the same behavior. Doesn't it seem strange to you that there are several people that completely agree with my points? Or they need full suspension replacement as well?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16616623

Nope, body is super clean and accident-free.

POST 17Original post

Are the shocks the same spec as OE? Also, if you can take the wheel spaces out, put stock rims on it and then see of the ride quality improves could help figuring out why your ca is behaving the way it does. As well, if you can find someone local that has the same car and go for a drive with them to see if theirs handles the same way as yours.

POST 18Original post

GT3 lip... ...but I have a cup lip to try after this one. Cup lip much cheaper and a little deeper.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 16616445

I see part of the problem with that body kit. I'd bet there was no wind tunnel testing... iI you ever took it to the track and pushed it, bad things can happen. Or, I could be completely wrong. Maybe find someone close with a stock 996 and compare the two's handling. Hhave you ever driven a hippo rear engine car? Very different feel than a front engine. Try the simple suggestions mentioned above first and report back.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 16615464

1-4 are No for my 99c2. But I have a very street alignment setup and all season tires, which help a lot. And I run stock tire pressures, never a pound more, as that causes a bumpy ride or a very loose feeling. Item 5 - it depends on how you drive, the road, your tires, and how much fuel is in your gas tank. If you just stab the brakes, yes, traction is a problem. If you apply the beak progressively, it slows down at a rate that feels like 600-900 negative horsepower. Its incredible to be honest.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 16616752

Those huge spacers aren't doing the suspension and handling any favour either. Jesus, are they thicc.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 16617006

I have got to agree on this one. With spacers that thick it would move the center of gravity (or is it rotational mass?) so far out from the wheel hub (brake discs) I can see how that would really upset the handling. And also negatively putting a weird side load on the shocks/struts amplifying the slightest movement. Why do you need such thick spacers?

POST 23Original post

My brakes required a LOT of pedal pressure when I bought the car. I replaced the pads and rotors, which improved braking, but still needed a lot of pedal pressure. Replacing the old and gross brake fluid really transformed the brakes. It's still a firmer pedal than my my BMW but it's way easier than before. I also feel like the front is a little light and darty at high speeds. I can appreciate OPs state of mind on this. For those of us new to these cars it can be hard to know what is part of the unique character of a 911 and what is flaw due to deferred maintenance. I know my front drop links are worn, so I'm going to replace those and see what effect it has.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 16617182

Why does anyone - because it looks cool. I dont think there is any other benefit to spacers?

POST 25Original post

It is hard to say with those pictures...and that body kit, but stock ride height rakes to the front. Your car appears to be raked to the rear. It may just be the pictures, the kit, or how it is parked. Measure the ride height:

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 16616752

Not to me. The rubber on all the 996 cars r aging out regaurdless of miles. A lot of people have not touched the links or arms because if low milage. My car has all new links and arms with older h&r springs with b8 shocks. No issues with my car at 130mph. Mine is also an Aerokit 2 car so properly engineered down force helps.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, don't get me wrong. I'm asking about features not about issues . My 911 handles absolutely amazing at any speed. All "rubbers" in suspension are made by Powerflex and have lifetime warranty, Bilsteins are only 2500 miles since new. 1. I'm ok driving it at 110-130mph and above on a normal road , that's just the front end that becomes a bit light. This is pretty unusual for me that's why I'm asking. 2. It does not jump on bumps. But in case if the road is bumpy (for example Nurburgring famous carousel turn) and I brake at a high speed, light front axis may often lead to ABS involvement. 3. Wide body kit is the reason why I need spacers. Wheels are stock turbo twists. Tyres are 315/30/18 rear and 225/40/18 front. Thanks to all of you giving advices about brake fluid change, tyre pressure, airodynamics and alignment

POST 28Original post

Powerflex bushing are urethane right? The factory units are rubber and are bonded the superstition parts. Urethane ones are not and act as bearings since they rotate in their holes. This will make the car act differently than stock too. Are the Bilsteins you have, have the same specifications as new Porsche ones? Also, when you install wider than stock tires, the ABS can start feeling weird too. The parameters in the programming are set for stock or near stock size tires.

POST 29Original post

I have the same question sometimes about breaking. It seems heavy and I think I need more stopping distance. this past weekend I was out driving and getting after it. I came around a corner and saw a light turn red. I jammed on the breaks and I stopped on a dime. I think my foot is just used to lighter pressure on my company car or driving my wife’s SUV. I also feel that light light front end at high speeds too. But I think it is just a Porsche issue you get used to, when I point the car in a direction it goes right where I want it to go. mine is a 99 and maybe I am lucky, I don’t have a lot of interior creaking sounds. Just normal sounds for a car that is 21 years old.

POST 30Original post

The brake issue seems to be common among most 996 owners especially if your other car is a more modern car. It takes more pressure, but work very well. Creaky interior... the newest 996's are 15 years old... and the interior has a ton of cheap plastic. I think 4/5 could be alignment/suspension/tire issues. Did you get an alignment after installing the B6s? I've never seen a 996 with the techart widebody kit though which is the coolest part. Is it a real kit or replica and did you buy it like that? I don't think your pictures do it justice. The kit looks like it was big $$$ back in the day. https://www.vividracing.com/techart-...4-p-13415.html

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16618205

The alignment is mandatory after suspension mods of course it's done. The body kit does not seem to be a replica. The quality of panels, edges and overall impression tells me that it's original but I've bought it as is. And yes it was a big dollar car some time ago. Some interior photos:

POST 33Original post

Wow - the interior looks amazing. I've been pondering some more alcantara in my interior and this helps! I would have never thought it would look so good on the lower dash/glove box area. The shifter looks classy too.

POST 34Original post

My car gets light at triple digits, but I've got 19s, is lowered and on PSS10s so I don't really feel like I'm smart enough to figure out what the issue is and how to fix it. I would look into your brake issues. The brakes on my car are one of the best things about it. Total confidence, I can break really heavily and the car stays on track. I really can't say that the pedal is stiffer than any other car I've driven. Maybe you've got an issue with your booster.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
