Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

996 C 2/4/Turbo Tiptronic Looking for a detailed parts list for the above A96/10 transaxle. any exploded views I can find online, have no diff or ring/pinion part numbers. Any info or links would be great. Thanks Peter

POST 2Original post

I just finished replacing my pinion gear. There are at least two threads on this forum showing their replacement. Just search for them. Also, good e "Porsche PET" and you will find the sites that have the Porsche catalogs that show exploded views of the transmission and the entire car.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am specifically looking for the differential casting/housing OEM Porsche number..the part the ring gear bolts to with 12 bolts, I carries the planetary gears assy!! Not on any PET list I can fined..plenty for manual trans!

POST 4Original post

Sorry, didn't dig that deep into my transmission this time. Did you try calling your local dealer and asking for the part number?

POST 5Original post

Maybe look here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p..._911_parts.php

The Porsche 996.2 trans/Turbo trans, is also know as the Mercedes 722.6 trans, try the Mercedes suppliers for parts, much easier and less expensive...

POST 7Original post

Mercedes isnt going to have the differential, or ring and pinion, thats the Porsche part.

POST 8Original post

Yea, maybe not, some are unique to Porsche and are made from unobtainium !!!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The rest of the gearbox is Mercedes 5 gtronic!!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mercedes only use this transmission in an inline format with a propshaft and separate final drive, the transaxle variant is only Porsche application.

POST 11Original post

If the Tipt gearbox is the same for the 997 and 996, then I have a whole 997 Tipt gearbox you can have for a song, if interested.

Most kind and a very generous gesture ..however I am in Dublin Ireland.. freight would kill it!! I have asked the son of a late friend of mine, who has just finished a 20 year stint at Porsche Motorsport in Germany/USA..... the past 7 years as Race Director at Porsche Motorsport North America. He has his inside contacts on it!!

Right !! We have had the same issue with the "nose cone gasket". It is unique to the Porsche version of the Merc 722.6, The rebuild kit for a 722.6 will have all the clutches seals gaskets ect, but will not have the proper nose cone gasket. Everyone ends up making one, since these simple parts are not available.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

[QUOTE=Porschetech3;16621052]Yea, maybe not, some are unique to Porsche and are made from Porsche dont make their own transmissions, most are ZF and are fitted too many other cars in varying formats. Porsche aficionados seem to have a difficult time coming to terms that their cars share parts with humble VWs and Audis or even Mercedes Benz. Porsche dip the global parts bin widely.
