Love this car and how it drives..however soon started to notice misfiring intermittently , usually happens after 30-50 minutes drive or after I put my foot down engine check lights ON !

So obviously my mechanic changed the spark plugs, coil pack , but no difference , thought it might be a �sticky solenoid�, this was changed and swapped, but made no difference either!!the car otherwise when not misfiring drives great and pulls hard with beautiful noises

Hi all.. just bought myself a 996 c4s 2002 as a treat! Love this car and how it drives..however soon started to notice misfiring intermittently , usually happens after 30-50 minutes drive or after I put my foot down engine check lights ON ! Sometimes clears itself spontaneously after re- starting the engine, diagnostics say misfire cylinder 1. So obviously my mechanic changed the spark plugs, coil pack , but no difference , thought it might be a �sticky solenoid�, this was changed and swapped, but made no difference either!!the car otherwise when not misfiring drives great and pulls hard with beautiful noises could it be MAF sensor ? What else could it and how to proceed best without going down the road replacing things randomly!

Run a bottle of Techron in the gas tank. If you have had the spark plug and coil pack on #1 cylinder changed, about the only thing left is the fuel injector is clogged. How many miles/kilometers on the car?

I had the same symptoms, it was due to a sticking valve lifter, every time I drove the car and got it warm, once I revved it hard I always got a misfire code. since replacing the lifters I haven't had a single misfire. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...questions.html

Exactly this. What does the car sound like, is it at all clicky/tappy? Ive read that fuel injectors are starting to be more of an issue, but from my experience when a plug or coil doesn�t effect it AND there is �more� noise, the lifter is failing.
