Suggestion
You could possibly search out the spoiler related electrical connectors and disconnect then reconnect these to remove any surface corrosion that might be at the root cause of the behavior but you can also just drive the car and wait to see if the symptoms return.

Change the whole spoiler with the harness and electrical components and because you're there replace the rear bumper, rocker panels and rear tires

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Once I got to my destination I manually lowered it with the button on the kick panel and it has worked normal since.
I am a new 996 owner (1 month in) and had the light come on saying my spoiler was having an issue while driving on the highway yesterday. Once I got to my destination I manually lowered it with the button on the kick panel and it has worked normal since. Thoughts?

Has the engine been recently washed? Maybe the seller had the engine cleaned before putting the car on the market?
The only time my Boxster's spoiler acted up was a few weeks after I washed the engine, the first and last time I washed the engine.
I washed the engine after it was warmed up some and afterwards drove the car around to get the engine fully up to temperature to dry it out and drove the car considerably after the washing so it wasn't just dampness from the washing that was the problem.
Anyhow, I arrived at work with the spoiler light on and I was not able to lower the spoiler with the switch. I shut off the engine and left the car parked at work. Later that day I went out lunch and at some point I noticed the warning light was out and the spoiler was down and the spoiler has been fine ever since.

Chances are it was just a glitch. Keep an eye on the thing and if it acts up again then you can think about taking this to the next level. The 996/986 spoilers are pretty robust. Save for that one time the spoiler of my Boxster has worked just fine since 2002 and now with 285,885 miles. The car has been hit twice in the rear too while stopped at a light.
As for the spoiler of my Turbo… I'd rather not talk about that.
