I had to change a hardline when I changed one of those lines because the new one was actually an updated part but the dealer never told me that the corresponding hard line had to be changed until, I tried installing it and ran into a similar situation like you.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Installing a new thermostat to tank hose, having issues fitting the second leg from the bottom up to the u shaped hard line, doesn't look right. The old hose was the same way, any advice. Some pics of your would probably help our alot.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's genuine porsche, looks like the hard line is either too curved or too long maybe? Im stumped. The way the old one was on the shoved the hardliners all the way into the rubber and straightned the hose out. Looks odd

POST 4Original post

Put the two boxes side by side and see if they are the same. Could be an updated part that need a new hardline too.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If someone could snap a pic of what their hose looks like going into this fitting that would probably help out alot.

POST 7Original post

If that is the correct hose I'd try putting that second leg on first then work on the bottom fittings.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Even if that hose leg goes all the way on it still kinks and puts the main part of the hose riding against the block. This is the same pat number hose that was on the car when I bought it and the way they had it installed was causing it to kink and twist as well.

POST 9Original post

Is the metal pipe your trying to attach to the correct part? is there any play in it on the other end? In your 2nd pic, looks like if you rotated it about 30deg clockwise the alignment would be better.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I guess that's possible it's incorrect. It will not rotate and cannot be adjusted in any way. The engine is low milage. There is no part number visable on the rigid tube.

POST 11Original post

There are multiple versions (different MY, transmission, etc) of that hard metal line and the rubber hose and they need to match. Check part 18 and 32 here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=105-05 Just google the part numbers for images of the parts.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did see that site yesterday, no matter what number I try to google they all show the same part pictures so I can't tell if I have the correct tubes.

POST 13Original post

Considering all the different part #'s shown in the Auto Atlanta drawing I'd think there's a good possibility you've got the wrong hose. Why not order a few different ones and send the ones that don't work back?

POST 14Original post

What year is your 996 and is it a stick or tip?

POST 16Original post

I suspect your current hard line is a wrong part. From the autoatlanta site, your hard line should be 99610624354 https://www.ecstuning.com/ES1483205/ which looks like it will mate better with your hose. It doesn't bend back like a hook in your second photo.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, crazy that does look like it would fit perfectly. I wonder why mine has the wrong style ??

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not that I know of, it's had an ims retrofit so maybe they damaged the old tube during that process??

POST 20Original post

That's unlikely. Check out the second and second last photos of the engine here http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-Carrera-9...pWWKDN&vxp=mtr You can see it has the same hard line as yours (hook like) and the hose that connects to it has a shorter section compared to the new hose you got. So seems like you need to find the old style hose or switch to the new metal line (assuming that new line will fit).

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Intresting, we'll I already ordered that new tube so we'll see how it fits. I searched forever and couldn't find any other style rubber hose with a shorter fitting.

POST 22Original post

That rubber hose with a shorter fitting may be NLA/obsoleted. Let us know how it goes.

POST 23Original post

If the other two ends connect up as expected, a pair of tin snips could probably be applied to the excess hose... I know that RL frowns on any kind of non-sanctioned repair, but surely trimming a rubber hose to the correct length doesn't count as Southern engineering...

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sounds good i'll keep you updated. Thanks for the help!

POST 25Original post

Are you 100% sure your old hose is exactly the same as the new one? Many times the updated parts are at first glance look the same. I had to change a hardline when I changed one of those lines because the new one was actually an updated part but the dealer never told me that the corresponding hard line had to be changed until, I tried installing it and ran into a similar situation like you. THEN when I called them they told me the hard line needs to be replaced.

He said his old hose had the same problem and was hacked already. "It's genuine porsche, looks like the hard line is either too curved or too long maybe? Im stumped. The way the old one was on the shoved the hardliners all the way into the rubber and straightned the hose out. Looks odd"

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The new hard tube came in , it's a perfect fit for the rubber hose. It's the one on the right.

All installed or just a dry fit?

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's installed, fits wonderfully. Just waiting on my vaccum bleeder to come in so I can refill the system. I was thinking to fill it water first, run it to circulate it, than drain again and refill with the new porsche coolant. Any tips on getting all the air out with the bleeder, should I still jack up the rear?

POST 31Original post

The dealers and the majority of garages don't jack up the rear as they use the bleeder system as well. But it couldn't hurt - just to assist in the process.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 12942243

Glad you got it sorted. Why fill it with water first? Are you replacing ALL the coolant? Check out my thread here for an easy way to replace ALL coolant in the system https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...pump-tips.html

POST 33Original post

Why waste time, energy and water by doing the refilling twice? Aren't you confident of your own work?

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great writeup by Ahsai! Looks like I got it all out using this method, just wasn't sure if I should run water through the system to remove all residual orange coolant before refilling with the pink porsche stuff. Maybe I'm being too picky.

No need to use water if you use my method. I changed my coolant from orange (old) to the new pink color this way without any flushing with water.
