Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wanted to get some opinions. Currently have Champion 18" wheels with Pirelli P-Zeros on my 2000 ME. H&R adjustable suspension with current ride height setting to rest of world. I think a little lower would be nice. There is still a bit of wiggle room to go lower with the 18's. Any experience out there with this decision - bigger wheels or lower ride? Pic attached. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I have 19" on mine and it sets it off nicely, however 19" tires are a lot more expensive than 18 or 20"

POST 3Original post

just a heads up that 19" tires are more expensive do to the odd size. 18 or 20 inchs tires will be markedly cheaper. just something to think about.

POST 4Original post

You can also fit a bit more sidewall in there on an 18" wheel which makes for a bit softer ride. Not sloppy, it still handles great, but it does provide a bit more dampening.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. The 19's look nice. Great point on the cost factor.

POST 6Original post

My car is dropped on PSS9's and I started on 18's, went to 19's, and recently went back to the 18's. Way better ride quality on the 18's. Also, I think the 19's looked a bit too big on the front for my tastes.

POST 7Original post

Stick with 18s. I wish I could find 17s that I like. I would switch to 17s in a heartbeat if a decent rim existed for less than $900 each. But I have 18s and would NEVER move up to 19s or 20s. I owned 19s for a while, ride was just to firm.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Appreciate the input! Thanks.

POST 9Original post

I have posted a few times (and a long thread) on the subject of 18" vs 19" wheels. I had 19" wheels that I loved for most of the cars life. But I dropped back to 18" wheels due to the harsh ride quality. I definitely won't go back, even though I can't get my favorite tire in the right size for the 18s (Michelin PSS). The problem is that the sidewall height is the usually the same when going from 18"s to 19"s so adding 19"s without dropping the car ends up raising it by 1/2". And if you lower the car to compensate then you reduce the suspension travel which has a huge impact.

Ditto.....I feel a huge difference in ride comfort between 17 and 18. I ride the 18's in the summer (much better looking rims), and the original 17's in the winter (much better ride/comfort).

POST 11Original post

19s are cosmetic bs designed to increase Porsche's profits. Their race cars use 18s.

I agree and do the same.

POST 13Original post

Someone posted some times a few years back with 17's, 18's and 19's. Do what you want for aesthetics (19's look great) but the 18's were faster around the track. I'm sure there were other factors but that's a data point.
