I hate winters in general- not cold enough here and it only snows for 1-2 weeks total, so I run new Michlens A/S right now on the A8.

I am poking around fora set of winter wheels. Sad that iI missed a set in the for sale section yesterdaythat were local.
What are you running winter tires on?
OE 17" Porsche twists, tires in stock sizes (205/50 and 255/40). My tires are Falkens that were made a few years ago ... they're more like glorified all-seasons that true snows, but if there's real winter weather the 996 stays in the garage anyway. The Falkens are good enough to handle cold roads and small amounts of snow.

J Berk - I had trouble this time of year buying winter tires last year. Call Tire Rack because they may have tires that are not listed on the website. I plan on buying my future winter tires in August so I have more choices. Good Luck!
Jberk. It is probably my fault. I bought three sets (tires and wheels) trying to get the perfect set that I wanted. Now I need to fix couple wheels, swap tires and offload the other two sets. I tried to only buy the wheels yesterday but they didn't want to split up
Picked up a set. Of 18" oem twists in good shape with nice bilzaks mounted. Great deal from a local guy who sold his Porsche!
Will get them balanced and mounted soon
I keep the same wheels and tires on the 996 (Turbo Twist II with Yokohama AD08R tires) but I leave it in the garage if the weather turns nasty or we get a cold streak.
This year I put Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires on the Lexus. Haven't had snow here yet so I can't say anything about their performance in winter conditions yet. The Lexus is also rear wheel drive so I'm not expecting a great winter car even with the Alpin's. I'm hoping we get through the winter without much snow again this year.
Rear wheel is fine if you have good winter tires. My carrera is first awd car I've ever owned. I had 6 rear wheel drive cars since I was 21 (34 now) and no problems in Chicago winters. And those who live here will tell you there were quite a few good snow storms in last 15 years.
One of the cars was a 98 Lexus gs300. And with Nokian WR, I barely had to use the "snow" mode.
Don't sweat it, just know limits and be careful. You'll be fine.
Blizzaks on 18x8 18x10 knock off wheel set. Not the most ideal wheels due to machined/clear surface but the price and look was right.
