Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I wanted to check though with the community on the differences in transmissions be between G96.30 and G96.31.

Slave cylinder - looks like same part was used for all 996 and even 997 - no modifications needed here?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks! I'm undergoing a change of faulty transmission. The car is a 99' MY 911 C4. Since I came across a used transmission from 3.6 I'm doing such a swap. I have the engine out so did all the usual stuff (coils, water pump, RMS, IMS seal etc.) I wanted to check though with the community on the differences in transmissions be between G96.30 and G96.31. I want to ask if someone already did it and to confirm if I figured out everything correctly in terms of components selection? Gearbox - G96.31 has longer case, no other major external differences I need to go with shorter front shaft - clear enough distance between the input shaft and flange (facing the engine) differs slightly between 3.4 and 3.6 - has it any further implications? Flywheel seems both 3.4 and 3.6 use the same part so I bought a new LUK 415010210 - no brainer Clutch - this was more tricky Clutch - part numbers are of course different for 3,4 and 3,6, it also seems that 3,6 has a bit more torque capacity - ended up buying a 3.6 Comparing my used 3.4 with a new 3.6 kit from Sachs (3000 951 015) side by side the disc looks and measure the same pressure plate spring is 7mm more offset from the flywheel compared to 3.4 Clutch operations I had the older type clutch lever 99611671203 and pivot ball (pictured) I know there was a technical bulleting and a change in those parts based on my research that at some point of time both 3.4 and 3.6 versions had the following combo fitted: I went for: 1 x Clutch Relase Lever. Porsche 997 MKI / 997 MKII / 991 (99711671201), 1 x Clutch Relase Lever Sealing Ring. Porsche 997 MKI / 997 MKII / 991 (9P1141143), 1 x Clutch release lever ball pin. Porsche 986 Boxster / 996 (99611671604), 1 x Clutch Release Lever Clamp. Porsche 997 MKI / 997 MKII/991 (9P1141164) Is all that correct? Will the updated lever from 3.6 fit? Slave cylinder - looks like same part was used for all 996 and even 997 - no modifications needed here? Would be happy to hear if anyone did that kind of swap and if I did miss something? In particular I wanted to confirm if going clutch, clutch fork/pivot ball all from 3.6 will make it all work? Any other things to watch out for?

POST 2Original post

Im pretty sure the early cable ends r different so u may have to swap them out or find adaptors?

POST 4Original post

The pressure plate is different, you bought the correct 3.6 one. Flywheel and clutch disc the same.

POST 5Original post

clutch pressure plate 996.1 is .200" shorter in length than the 996.2 , the 996.2 throw out bearing is .210" longer than the 996.1. This is important as they are interchangeable, but not correct to do so.

I can only find one part number for the release bearing, 99611608004. Fitment says all 996 and 986S transmissions. Do you have another number?

POST 7Original post

I also remember reading that there was an updated pivot ball so maybe its needed for the newer clutches to compensate?
