This is not a probability of success.

If it is confirmed by inspection that the ball joints are still good and no foreign material has got into the joints, it would make sense to replace just the boots, if available separately.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are the boots that protect the ball joints replaceable with OEM or aftermarket boots (assuming that the ball joints are still good) or do the complete parts need to be purchased? Thanks

Its why sometimes I know an answer to someones question but dont care to answer as they probably wont actually take the time to properly look at it. Follow the link I posted in your other post and like I said scroll down to the list of components the kit includes. There you will find the bellows kit for the inner tie rods. The whole thing is about $10.

Thanks for your reply. I was not referring, though, to the boots that you mentioned. I was referring, for instance, to the ball joint dust boot on the Steering Tie Rod End (TRW JTE760 in your list) or the ball joint dust boot on the Control Arm (Meyle 4160500024). Some of my car's boots appear to have just started cracking. If it is confirmed by inspection that the ball joints are still good and no foreign material has got into the joints, it would make sense to replace just the boots, if available separately.

There are companies that sell generic boots by diameter of the ball and the stud. I have wondered about that myself. Someone smarter maybe can Link a good solution for where to get them and how to go about removing the old ones and installing new ones. Most of the time people just toss the whole unit and buy new but if the ball joint is in good condition that may not be necessary.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
