The PO changed the amber side lights to clear but I found these new side lights that are black when off, amber when on, and (drum roll) sweeping when flashing.

To get the side marker lights to blink with the turn signals, I made a minor wiring change months ago but now I can't find the source for the DIY project.

Suggestion
For those that don't want to buy a new side marker, you can just use headlight tint.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Clear is good
Black is better
Amber light
and, it adds 10 hp when blinking!

I like 'em, but I need another set of side markers like another hole in my head, lol. Maybe when my current ones die I would switch to these. Hmmmmmm..
Thanks
Looks great while off IMO, but the sweeping effect on a car of this vintage just looks like low-budget tuner nonsense. I assume those are the NSLUMO ones on Amazon.
I was thinking that too, but I wonder if we would feel the same with enough changes. If all the lights were changed out/refreshed/updated - would the "vintage" still be the same?
on my 944, the old headlights were updated h4 units - but that just improved the light, it didn't change the vintage look so I wouldn't add something like this. But here I'm not so sure because with the right balance, it can update the whole car. Maybe. (I know, pointless stream-of-consciousness post, but I agree with your point AND I like the light!)
I dislike the LED options for the 996 tails as well. Personal preference, but I've seen very few changes in that vein that make much sense. I almost picked up the NSLUMO sidemarkers myself, as I liked the look when off, and they do have a non-sweeping version (just lights the line up). but even that irked me a bit as it looks too modern for the car.
I would like to combine the lighting element (without the sweep - simple on/off) with classic ambers. That would modernize the lighting while keeping the stock look.
Received my side lights in clear yesterday. They look great, however, I've got no blink. All the turn signals work except these side lights. Any thoughts?
"How did you get the blink effect to function?"
To get the side marker lights to blink with the turn signals, I made a minor wiring change months ago but now I can't find the source for the DIY project. I checked the 101 Projects book, searched this forum, and the Pelican DIY projects list, but so far I can't find the project instructions. I did not invent this mod myself because I do not understand how or why electricity works or if it's just a passing fad.
Hopefully somebody will post a link to the instructions to make the side marker lights blink.

I have the clear ones with an amber bulb and think those look great. Thinking about getting the clear LED ones now like to see a pic of them on your car with the light on.
I got the smoked ones listed in the Amazon link above and installed them today. I did the blinking side marker mod many years ago. These blink but do not do the traveling thing. Is that a setting or is that a different set of lights? Btw, I like how they look on my dark green car and the light is much more visible than the original amber bulb. That's a good thing,
Not the first time I missed something like that. I do like the ones I have though. I remember reading in the past that you couldn't use LED side lights if you did the blinking mod, but that's not true with these for some reason. I really like the improved visibility over the incandescent bulbs.
I got mine installed on my Arctic Silver 996. My car came with non-amber side markers already. They looked good, but had a darker smoke color.
These LED lights in clear are a closer match to the body color. The difference is subtle, but I like it.
These photos have the original darker lens on the passenger side, and the new clear lens on the driver side.
I have not yet done the flasher modification.
Yeah the line looks a little out of place, maybe if it lined up with the bumper seam it'd look better? Or is it just the angle of the picture making it look lower? Clears would look much better IMO.
