Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I installed a ducktail that replaced the original pop up spoiler .
Leading evidence: 'Install ducktail' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install ducktail' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The Getty unit is probably the same as mine but a tad shorter.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It worked pretty well but mine is vented so there was space to get my hands in there.
Hey guys as I transform my 99 C4 into the vision I have the next step took place today . I installed a ducktail that replaced the original pop up spoiler . Purchased from a company in Florida via eBay .
I dry fit the duck last week and it fit perfect . So dropped it off to the painter and picked up this morning . Install was easy and I am very happy with the look . To my eye it compliments the narrow body well .
I have already installed a front spoiler so the last touch will be GT3 rockers which I have but not fitted yet . The duck even allows the 3rd brake light to be seen . I am very happy with the results .
Thanks guys . TCN while I love my ducktail I will never say it's as nice as yours . The one you have is a piece of art . But mine fit my vision and budget . They can coexist nicely 😁
Nice! Who is your painter? What did that charge to paint this piece?
I'm over in the Athens area.
Oh, I noticed the rear bumper skin is not OEM... what is that? Link? Thanks!
Did you install the mesh into the openings? The previous owner skipped that and I really want and need to get this done. Just not sure how to secure mesh to fiberglass
Painter is RWP Precision Paint and Body in Clermont . Owners name is Robert Parks and he's a Porsche guy . He has painted my hood/front bumper/rear diffuser and now the duck . All done well . He charged $330.00 to paint the duck but he gave me a discount from $378.00 . Probably because I am a repeat customer and pay cash .
The rear bumper skin is stock but has an aftermarket rear diffuser added . Company is Better Bodies out of CA. they used to be called GT3tek .
Man the only thing that youd miss out on is the weight reduction but the visual aspect of yours is amazing. The ducktail on our car looks so good and glad to see others, like you, are adopting the look. The overall execution is great and your car is black so its more subtle.
One thing Id like to see or compare at some point is the angle and how far the Ducktail sticks out between the many versions and brands out there. The openings on yours are smaller but more swept which is pretty cool to me.
I epoxied zip tie tabs on the underside of the opening and looped a zip tie through. It worked pretty well but mine is vented so there was space to get my hands in there.
The mesh inserts came installed with the duck . Looks like they took metal wire and epoxied to the inside of the tail . The inserts slide over the wires and then you bend the wires over to hold the inserts in place . Simple and it works .
My style of duck blends/flows great in black . Probably the same for all dark colors . White or light colors the seam where the tail sits in the opening might be more visible . I am just guessing . Mine almost looks one piece unless you really look .
As you stated there are enough variations out there it would be cool to compare . My pic straight on from the rear you can't see the 3rd brake light . But that's because I crouched down to take the pic . Anything bigger than a Miata you CAN see the light . I lucked out on that . This is a good discussion 👍

Wow those side x side pics really show the difference between the two . So far we are only talking about visual differences . How about performance differences ? Yikes this may become an oil thread 😋
I dont know about the performance differences and its probably not relevant for 99% of us. The Getty unit is probably the same as mine but a tad shorter. Im looking at getting some decals made for us.
Yeah my comment on performance was somewhat tongue in cheek . I have to think the duck is at least as good as the pop up spoiler and possibly better . Generally speaking I rarely go over 100 mph I mostly rip through the mountains at a slower pace . So your 99 % comment is probably very accurate .
My goal for my car is to somewhat mimmick the RS model of the 70's meets modern GT3 . So front spoiler lip , GT3 rocker covers and ducktail spoiler . The rear diffuser I added is purely for looks . To my eye it completes the rear end .
My 02 Boxster S has a GT3 front bumper , GT3 rockers and a mini ducktail . I actually started a conversation with Joe Toth years ago on the 986 forum that turned into a group buy for his then new design ducktail spoiler . So my twins have similar visual impact .
Ask and you shall receive 😋 . She's a 2002 S with a FSI 3.6 Stage II + built in 2015 . Black top has a glass rear window I also have a color matching hardtop . She has an OEM GT3 front bumper with spoiler lip , GT3 aftermarket rocker covers and the Joe Toth ducktail . I also have the GT3tek diffuser . Has bi-xenon headlights. Back in 2015 it put down 282 hp at the wheels which is strong enough to make this light chassis fly .
Lightweight flywheel with race balance she revs quickly and is smooth . Black interior with coco mats . She is not the hottest or the fastest out there but tons of fun to whip through our mountain roads .
OK, because I'm interested in buying the ducktail I'm going to ask what might be a dumb question... We had some heavy rains here last year and I'm wondering, it looks like rain water would pool and dump right into the fan and engine compartment (or when you wash the car) on that ducktail slope. I'm sure that's accounted for in the design, but someone tell me how/where that water is diverted to when it drops in those top vents? Thanks.
Go look at your stock engine cover. It has a bunch of holes in it too.
Water won't pool up in the ducktail because there are holes in it for the water to run through. Onto the engine. Into the intake snorkel. Just like the stocker.
Water wont puddle in the airbox if its OEM and the water just falls through the engine bay. Theres really nowhere for water to puddle other than the engine mount area. Im sure the OPs set up is similar but this what the overhead looks like without the mesh installed.
My initial reaction to the white car is:
A. The car looks great
B. The duck is big
Not saying big is good or bad . But if the car was black or dark blue it might look different .

With all things being equal yes . To my eye and it's just my opinion that a ducktail painted black or dark blue will look different in proportion to one painted white . The darker color tends to blend more . White really pops when clean and just looks different . No real proof just anecdotal .
Not trying to be controversial just an opinion . They ALL look good in my opinion . And so do taco wings and many of the different styles . It's great that we have so many choices available .
Certainly not a duck, but some sort of waterfowlMore akin to the one on the boxster poster earlier. I like that it retains the auto raise/lower of the stock spoiler
^^^ I have one of those on the OEM spoiler I removed. I bought it off ebay and it was advertised as a " Singer style " spoiler . I initially liked it but I really wanted a ducktail.
