Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'best place' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). If your dead set on a C4S Tippy Cab then it's probably worth a deeper dive.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My wife and I just decided to get into our first Porsche a few weeks ago, during that time Ive been doing as much reading as my mind can handling regarding the 966 and 977. We do want a Cab and trim level I would like to stay with a 4S, my budget is 35k. Im in full understanding of history of the car, condition, etc. In my serach Ive found quite a few but nothing really gave me that wow factory until I stumbled onto this one. Any thoughts regarding this one? I have to figure shipping to Michigan will cost around 1500, they have no documents of history of it which does bother me. A PPI would most certainly be done.
Appreciate and feed back.

Good looking car with some tasty options including full leather & PSE. If your dead set on a C4S Tippy Cab then it's probably worth a deeper dive. Engine cylinder condition and IMSB would be my biggest concern over everything else. A thorough PPI with borescope from the bottom would be advised.
In 2004, Porsche made more 4S Cabs than any other 911 variant: 4,543. From the CarFax, it looks like the car was relatively well cared for by owners 1,2 and 4.. The exhaust pipe on the drivers side is hanging lower than the passenger side and that could well mean you will need new motor mounts. That is not a big deal or deal breaker
In cases like this, where you are new to the car, it is super helpful if you can find a friend with some experience with the 996 to drive it for you. But if not, you can spend more money having a detailed PPI which the dealer probably won't allow.
See if you can get the dealer to give you a video showing the car starting up from behind to see what the exhaust looks like (hopefully nothing to see) and an audio of the engine, then post it here and you will get more feedback. Also, include a shot of all the gauges on the dashboard after startup and a picture of the engine bay.
As everyone here will tell and gbarron already did, the IMS bearing is the one thing you want to think hard about.
Let us know how it goes.
Welcome Aussie,,,,check out the local pca mart. It’s probably the best place to start. You can join as a “test drive “ hit the meets and talk to owners.
There is very little secure storage in a C4S. The frunk is small because of AWD. If you stretch your budget you might be able to find a 2009 or new Boxster with PDK transmission. Way more storage if youre going to travel in it. Going to sacrifice performance - unless you can find an S - but handles better than 911 due to mid engine
