Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
6GT3 wheels are the correct choice here….and probably the cheapest of all the options.
Leading evidence: 'cheapest of all the options' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cheapest of all the options' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill those wheel wells' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
In that case you want to fill those wheel wells, which means the wider wheels are what you want.

I also like the BBS better so it sounds like your saying they will fit just fine and fill the wells sufficiently.

I wonder do you have an image from the rear 3/4 which shows how they fill the wheel wells ?

I also might lower the car slightly in the future when I replace springs.

Apex will replace a wheel if you were to damage it at a track, dont know if its specifically a track induced failure that is a pretty cool customer service item.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ya'll going to me hearing a lot from me
Everyone has been a huge help in the purchase process. Picking up my first silver 996.2 tomorrow and I know that I want to change out the current 17" 10 spokes that are on it. I would like to go up to 18"s. It will be needed new tires soon anyways, so I am starting to tracking down options. I just don't know much about camber, stance, clearance, offsets, etc etc so looking for some help. I want an relatively aggressive stance that fills the wheel wells but no rubbing or rolling fenders. Here are two choices I like in a price range I'm comfortable with:
Apex SM-10 Anthracites. - I've talked to Apex and they say these should fit great
8.5 x 18 ET45
12 x 18 ET65
BBS SR Satin Grey
8 x 18 ET50
10 x 18 ET41
Which would look best on the car? I assume the BBS is a smaller wheel in width? I was going to run Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02 on either choice. My main question is about the fitment and performance, but am open to random opinions about which wheel will look better. I am not tracking the car and will just be a weekend street car for the twisties. I also might lower the car slightly in the future when I replace springs.
How about telling us a bit more about how you will use the car? Based on what I'm reading in the first post, you seem to put looks ahead of function. In that case you want to fill those wheel wells, which means the wider wheels are what you want. But that's a guess, because I don't have enough information.
The spec you listed above, yes the BBS are not as wide.
The Apex are slightly wider than GT3 sizes, the BBS are Carrera-ish sizes with the wrong rear offset.
Either will fit the 996.2.
I'm running OZ Allegerita wheels in 18x8.5 ET 53 front & 18x11 ET63 rear.
With Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 235/40R18 front and 295/30R18 rear, they really fill out the wheels wells nicely.
They also perform great, especially in the wet.
To go as large as the Apex, you'll possibly need to swap to coilovers to have the space and run more negative camber to fit in the wheel well.
I thought the apex seemed to big. Ive seen people run them but I dont want to do all those adjustments. I also like the BBS better so it sounds like your saying they will fit just fine and fill the wells sufficiently.
Yup! If my wife wouldnt leave me the very second those wheel boxes hit the porch, those would be my non-Carrera II wheelsin Race Silver, of course. Adds at least 40 Ponies on my butt-dyno plot.
Apex will replace a wheel if you were to damage it at a track, dont know if its specifically a track induced failure that is a pretty cool customer service item.
Those are much more sensible sizes
Unless the OP is planning on fitting 305 section rear tires and 245 fronts, I see no point in fitting 12" rears and 9" front wheels. All they do is add additional and unnecessary unsprung weight.
The Apex SM10 wheels in the 8.5 and 11" sizes are the same weight as, or a bit lighter than, the 8" front and 10" rear 5 spoke Carrera wheels fitted to the 996.2, which are the lightest 18" wheels Porsche fitted to the 996 platform.
Looks good! What wheels/tires did you have on the car before? Can you comment on the difference between that setup and this one? I have RoW M030 and I'm looking at upgrading from the stock Carrera II rims.
This is what was on the car:
As to comparison - I really cannot. I am in an Atlanta suburb, bought the car in the Dallas Tx area. Flew out, drove it home, drove it a few times at home before putting on the lift to do IMS Solution, clutch assembly, RMS, and UAOS. The tires in that picture were old, mismatched front to rear. The wheels had some minor curb rash - and are the style that have to be reverse mounted. A sale came from Apex while I was doing the other work, so pulled the trigger on the new setup. Sorry I cannot give you more of a before/after.
