Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In answer to your question on why the IMSB was replaced 2x, it's because you have the LN Engineerings Retro which is recomended to be replaced every ~7 years or so.
Leading evidence: 'Replace 2x' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check those items asap' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

IMSB: was replaced a few years ago so you are good for a few more years with LN Retro.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks to all of you that helped me in the purchase of my 996. I had an uneventful 11hr drive back home in it yesterday and fell in love with it the more miles I put on it. He had the full history and I have attached it
so that you can see the major "must-do" things that have been done (IMS replaced TWICE, for some reason). A prior post already lists the other items that I should now start working on. Beautiful original 40k miles, one-owner car. Gentleman was a delight to hang out with and also owns a beautiful guards red 1989 5-speed carrera. Very happy with my find and purchase.
yeah I sold off a E36 M5 back in the day because I was worried about putting on miles and decreasing the value of the car. Thats not about to happen on this one!
Congrats. Car looks great and I like your excel sheet.
In answer to your question on why the IMSB was replaced 2x, it's because you have the LN Engineerings Retro which is recomended to be replaced every ~7 years or so. You can find all the details on their website. I have the same one. They also have a permanent version called the Solution.
After a quick glance at your excel list here is what I see looking at it from the perspective of mitigating the catastrophic failure points that could occur.
1. Water Pump Failure: No reference to a replaced water pump. Gotta get this done asap with an oem replacement and replace it every 5-7 years. If/when a plastic bit from the blade chips off, it gets lodged in the engine near the heads and creates excessive heat and then cracking. Easy to prevent with fresh water pump.
2. IMSB: was replaced a few years ago so you are good for a few more years with LN Retro. Your call if you want to replace it again with another Retro or go with the Solution at the next go around.
3. AOS: was replaced a few years ago. It will eventually go again. Consider the UAOS as a more permanent solution when you replace it again.
4. Bore Scoring: Assuming the bore scope performed for the PPI showed no borescoring, then your next step is to make sure you dont get it. This is where 2 oil changes a year with great oil, fresh fuel injectors (didn't see any on the list), top tier gasoline, oil testing program, proper start up procedures, etc. Come into play.
Plenty of other things you can do, but imho, the key is to mitigate the catastrophic engine risk stuff first, which is very easy to do, then refresh everything else when you see fit.
Enjoy it!
Looks great!
Congrats
Its great that you have detailed maintenance records.
And I agree with GC996 about the water pump being the next item you want to consider replacing.
Ill be a broken record and add fuel injectors to that list.
