I swapped the carpet out for black but left the red leather interior everywhere else.

This is the color combination that Porsche used for the original concept.

But I'm doing it for a change of pace not because of any dislike of the full red.

I was simply saying (or trying to say) that red interiors were cool and I'd change places with the OP in a New York Minute!

belts are hidden away for daily use - makes a huge diff on the track IMHO
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm considering buying a car with a red full-leather interior. (Fortunately, the exterior is silver.)
It's not my favorite color, but I recently had a chance to drive another 996 with a Boxster red interior, and to my surprise, I liked it. Just sitting there gave me a good feeling. So now I'm considering this car that is red
everywhere
(almost). And I'm wondering, when it's time to move on, will this take forever to sell? Or is there a minority who must have red who buy such cars up as soon as they appear? Or ... ?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
I bought my first 911 in 1974, Alpine white exterior and lipstick red leather interior. Man, that was a killer combination
Red leather cleans up really nice and always looks new. I have always tried to find another car with red leather interior but up to today no such luck
I love red interior
I had a Honda S2000 years ago with red interior. It was my favorite interior color that I have had over the years. Someone on here just sold a silver 996 with red interior. I believe it took him a few months but can't say if the interior color deterred any potential buyers. I think if the car is in good condition when you sell it the interior won't hinder the sale
Red interior is like any color that is outside the norm. For some it will be a reason to buy the car, for others it will be a turnoff. Personally, I would love to have a car with red interior but I tend to like strange colors. A green/green car would appeal to me too.
Red Interior Dude,
I agree with The Penguin. When you go to sell that car, someone, somewhere will be looking for a 996 with a red interior - and that will make your car THE choice. It may take you a little longer - maybe not. As a very successful salesman friend of mine says, "There is an *** for every seat." (not calling anyone an *** - it is just a catchy phrase) Someone will love your red interior - If you love it - get it - enjoy it - and don't sweat it.
All the best,
Ray
I would never buy any car with a red interior, or exterior for that matter, but that's just my personal preference. Still, it's an interesting question. My guess is it would be harder to sell. I'm sure some company somewhere has done research...
I wouldn't worry about resale value due to the interior color. There are plenty of people who would consider the red interior. I like the silver exterior and red interior combination. If anything I would get a black steering wheel to break it up but I could easily live with the all red. Go for it!
I have an Arctic Silver / Boxster Red 996 and love the interior. My only complaint would be the steering wheel shows dirt easily. I'm currently adding some black alcantara pieces just to break it up a little bit. But I'm doing it for a change of pace not because of any dislike of the full red. That being said, I believe the car will have a smaller potential buyer pool when it comes time to sell. BFD !!! If you like it buy it....
I wish I could have found my 996 with a red int !! silver/red or white /red is IT for me, just my preference. but I have arctic/black , with some red on the slip on covers. (:
hmm... are you saying you like "lipstick" interiors.... cause that is what carrera red is... certainly a certain type of personality trait if your into the bright "lipstick" reds... lol
you have to be into colors but but then again I see you have a basic 996 with 17" rims so I won't judge
thanks - your obviously a fan of some color
yup it's a GT3 seat - one of 2 sitting in a warehouse in Germany so I ordered the drivers seat only and kept a "comfy" passenger seat...
I also have a 5 point harness that isn't shown in the pic.. belts are hidden away for daily use - makes a huge diff on the track IMHO
Oh, and TBred911, if the "... Troll" comment was in response to my earlier post, I think you misread. I was simply saying (or trying to say) that red interiors were cool and I'd change places with the OP in a New York Minute!
If not directed at me, then never mind. These things can be hard to read/follow.
Nevertheless, the red interior of your Boxster looks sweet too.
Take it easy,
JKC
I'll bet. Whenever I go onto Porsche's site, I plug in black cars (Cayman and the current "... 911") with black exterior and red interior and man, they look awesome. I am betting Silver/Red looks cool too... And, Dark Green over Red. Never really liked Silver over Tan... Which is supposed to be classic too.
I swear, if I had the money, I'd get my interior in that Carrera Red... The one that has just a little bit of pink in it. Under Black... Really cool.
JKC
I'm starting to maybe look for a 996 and I love grey or silver over red. I have heard that the red fades a bit and everything fades at a different rate. Anyone have any experience in this regard?
It doesn't really if you take care of it. I have a beautiful 996 for sale with Boxster red leather interior and a matching gt3 seat that was I stalled many years later and its a perfect match. My car is for sale and if you pm me your email I can send you lots of pics and details.
Cheers
It seems to me that the Porsche red interior does not age especially well - the older cars I've seen in person with red interiors have faded to be more salmon/pink, which looks terrible IMO. I wouldn't buy a car with a red interior, so that's one vote for "harder to resell."
I swapped the carpet out for black but left the red leather interior everywhere else.
Recovered the door bottoms and speaker box in leatherette
IMHO, it looked a ton times better.
First person that came to see it bought it full price.
Said the pix didn't do it justice

Many years ago, I saw a silver boxster with red interior. The problem with that was it was RED all over... seats, dash, carpets... just too much red. If the interior was like how txhokie4life did to his car, that will be great! Plus, the Boxster's interior looked more "pinkish" and I personally did not like it. But I told the guy his car's interior looks nice!
My '99 996 Aerokit C4 is black w/ a Boxster red interior. I think it's an awesome color combination. If I remember correctly, according to the window sticker, the Boxster Red interior (2 tone red/black) was an extra $3,500. It also has heated sport seats and some carbon fiber which were also not cheap options. Total window sticker on the car was $99,500. Not cheap for a 1999 996!
I also have a 2000 Boxster silver w/ red interior.
The red interior is my favorite.
I like red very much . Having said that,,, wht/red or silver/red are MY best combos, just my 0.02 .
I had to settle for silver / black. Most 996 are either black or silver , with black int. it just looks that way. don't like gray int. and tan and silver i think clashes.
My second Porsche 911 was a 1969 E with a one year only red interior option. I have never seen another 1969 with that interior and I wish did not sell that car in 1973 to get married. I still have the wife and 34 years later was looking for another Targa with a light exterior color and a interior that was not black or grey to show off the Targa black interior hardware. After a year of searching I found my Arctic Silver with Boxter full red leather interior in 2007. The car always draws favorable comments and I enjoy how rare it is to see the combination. I think those ordering a new 996 stayed away from anything related to Boxter in the build!

I have a friend who had a 2005 black ext, deep rep interior. it looked amazing.
Trust me, there is a market for 'different' and unique vs. the typical. Go for it!
It looks really sharp, and its unique today. So many Porsches now are black on black, the red really stands out. I especially like the darker reds, like Terra Cotta.
I know this is an old thread, but I was at the dealer to pick up a part and they had a Night Blue 911 Carrera 4S with a Bordeaux Red interior. In addition, the seat inserts were white. It looked amazing!!
When I first saw my car listed on eBay, I hated it and skipped it. A friend (and P car aficionado) convinced me to take a closer look. I thought it needed more black to break up the red, and so I added black mats. I was going to add a black wheel, but now love my $1800 factory ordered carbon fiber/leather wheel.
The worst part of it is the carpet, that looks more salmon than red, and looks faded, but it's not since it's consistent in color, even under the dash and footwell area where no sun shines.
But now, as I said, I love it. Plus, between the carbon fiber and added optional leather package, my car has nearly $20k in interior options! So yea, I like it now. (but that two tone job above with black carpet looks fantastic!)
I see I need a pic with the black floor mats installed. I'll have to do that...
BTW, I have since treated the seats and they are cleaner than in these pics.
There is always a market for unusual paint and interior options I have seen a few White cars with Lobster or Can Can Red interiors, love them.
In fact any leads on a 996 White/Red car I am interested.
Rich
Not a fan of Boxster Red, (looks faded, but was special leather option for years on 986/996) but I do like the Can Can , Lipstick and other real red interiors.
Friend had a nice G body GP White over Can Can Red, It present very well and was winner at Concurs many times.
Mike, was that a order to sample interior? My build sheet say black/order to sample, but I dont know the color code because its not boxster red. But your interior looks like mine. Do you know the color or code? Thanks
