Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Like everyone else, one is not enough (NOT what my wife is sayin though!!!!!) I am currently looking at a 2003 C4S, Tiptronic, 2 owner, 40K mile Northern car. It's a car I wanted from the start (although this one doesn't have heated seats and it isn't yellow, blue or green), but found the Cab first. Body/paint is in overall very good condition, but she does have two small dents (maybe a PDR possible) on top of the rear fenders (L&R) from the Porsche tech putting the radiator back there and a few small, but deep scratches in the Grey paint. No accidents. Car had an IMSB failure at 12K miles and engine was replaced by Porsche. Aside from some other parts failures which the dealer addressed (alternator, a radiator, coolant tank and a few batteries), no other maintenance has been performed. Car has had 7 documented oil change over her life time (all on the new motor) with periodicities ranging from 18 months to 4 years. Cold start (in 25F degrees) after sitting for week looked great, zero smoke at start up and idle was smooth. The oil has never been tested. Given the low number of oil changes over her life and age of the car more than anything, I am thinking replacing the IMSB isn't out of line and would actually be a smart move. And, of course, while it's out, doing all the other little things these cars need because of time, not mileage (AOS, Coils, Plugs, Water Pump, etc, etc.) Oh, and the tires date from 2006. Owner will allow a PPI and a sump bore scope. I am wondering what would be a fair offer for her as she sits? And suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Would anyone wish to opine ? I am figuring about $8-10,000 for the IMSB and "while you have the motor out" maintenance, $1,000 for complete brakes (rotors and pads) and $1,200 for tires. Would $35,000 (or less), given the lack of maintenance be unreasonable?

POST 3Original post

What year was the engine replaced? May have the larger bearing. You may or may not think that's a good thing. I would think it is.

POST 4Original post

Being a Tip, and in need of work. My target would be $26-30k max. These have all been sitting unsold at $40k in dealerships, FB, and Craigslist for a few months now. I think until peak summer anything over $34k is too high personally.

I meant I think it would be a good thing, no reason to worry about it. I understand some people may not feel this way.

2004, and I think this is before the improved bearing came out. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It was a whole new engine. The IMSB failure happened about 18 months after original purchase and car was towed to the dealership.

POST 10Original post

with all that maintenance to be done and not your favorite color a cab and a tip, sub 30k would be my offer if i really liked the car..
