Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 4S Cab and, I'd really like to get a different steering wheel. I feel like it's the only thing, which makes the care feel almost 20 years old. I love the steering wheel on my 2018 Macan S--basically, I like the newer wheels--but, from what I can tell, you can buy these wheels but there is some adaptor you need to make them work in a 996. Seems like nobody knows where to get said adaptor. My question is, do you need an adaptor? But, more importantly, looking for suggestions for a replacement steering wheel but I don't want to give up the airbag. Everything else I've seen is custom and ridiculously-expensive. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Using an airbag (equipped steering wheel) from a different model is unsafe. Airbags are developed wrt the way they fill up and collapse when the head and torso dive into it in case of a crash (buckled up or not). All this is dependent in the body structure as well. Perhaps the atiwe 34cm diameter airbag-equipped steering wheel is an alternative? Sold also as Gemballa and by Ruf. Or get 'the other' 996 steering wheel than the one you have.

That's exactly what I worry about. Just can't find good info anywhere on what will/won't work. Obviously, I can get a racing wheel but I lose the airbag.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
