Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '99 has had a slight intermittent vibration in the steering wheel that was not dependent on driving conditions and could often be felt when stationary. I happened to turn off the HVAC fan for something the other day and noticed that the vibration stopped. I then tested this theory and drove around with the fan off and never once got a vibration, but when I turned the fan on full the vibration immediately came back. I did a search and couldn't find anything. Has anyone had this issue? Anyone been able to fix it?

POST 2Original post

Just spit-balling here, but maybe your HVAC fan needs looked into? It's obviously vibrating the whole dash. Could just be loose mounting, or could be going bad.

POST 3Original post

It probably sucked up a piece of paper from the passenger floorboard into the blower fan and threw it out of balance, I have seen that happen before... I have even seen small animals climb into the blower fan and throw them out of balance...lol .. the blower fan is like a hamster wheel...

POST 4Original post

If turning on the HVAC button also engages the AC compressor, could it be feedback coming through the drive belt and into the power steering pump?

Yeah, it looks like I'll be pulling the motor to inspect. At least it doesn't seem to difficult or time consuming. I've had some cars where it's a nightmare to remove. Next time I start it up I will pay better attention and feel around the dash more deliberately, but I have never noticed any dash vibrations, just the steering wheel which is why I find it so odd. Good to know, I'll pull it out and hopefully it's that simple. This was kind of the line I was originally thinking, but I don't think this is it, because both with A/C and high fan and A/C off, heat on and high fan I get the vibration. I will inspect the fan first and if that doesn't fix it venture down this rabbit hole.
