Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ive admittedly never cut open and inspected a filter before so I dont have an accurate benchmark.
Leading evidence: 'Inspect filter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check ferrous particles' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Always run a magnet down the pleats to check for ferrous particles.

Once most of the oil is out then you can pull the paper apart and inspect for debris.

Suggestion
Whenever inspecting oil filter media it's best to first squeeze out as much oil as possible.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Cut open the oil filter after oil change the other day and this is what Ive found. Plan to drop the pan and have a look prior to winter hibernation mode, but would value some input on the filter..
Hard to tell if there is anything there.
From what I can see it looks ok.
Are there any shiny bits?
I can’t tell if it’s glare or something else.
If there is glitter, take a magnetic tool (Dollar Tree has great ones for $1.25) and see if anything sticks to it.
Whenever inspecting oil filter media it's best to first squeeze out as much oil as possible. I typically cut out a 4-6" section then put it in my bench vice and slowly squeeze the paper like an accordion while soaking up the oil with a rag. Once most of the oil is out then you can pull the paper apart and inspect for debris. Always run a magnet down the pleats to check for ferrous particles.
A little trick Ive used is to lay out some shop towels (the shop paper towel variety), and stretch the filter material over the towels. Leave overnight. By next morning all the oil has been absorbed by towel and your left with filter material easy to read.
Thanks for the feedback. Filter is long gone unfortunately, and on initial inspection assumed it was totally normal. There were some little tiny glitter sized metal specs in the pleat's of the filter. Probably best seen in the 3rd picture. I was wondering if a little is ok and considered normal, or if the presence of any is no good. Ive admittedly never cut open and inspected a filter before so I dont have an accurate benchmark.
Here you go. Starter kits from Speediagnostix and Oilvue for testing your oil. I use both just to crosscheck. But I am overkill when it comes to oil. After all, it's the lifeblood of every engine isn't it.
