Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ive started a new project that Ive always wanted to do now that Im retired. I raced SCCA, FRCCA, Skip Barber, Formula Ford, Formula 2000, SRF and stopped racing when I was 65. Im 72 and after researching what type of auto to work on I decided the Porsche 911 had so much history, information, and was just a great car. I decided I would get one from Copart Auction that had only required mechanical repairs and no body work. I got a 1999, 911. I had a four post lift put in my garage and started to see what needed to be done. Copart stated car runs and drives.? After getting it on the lift I found the transmission case was cracked and so was the engine bell housing. So, Im going to pull the engine and transmission out in one shot. Im a retired engineer who is new to the 911 and need any advice from experienced individuals. Where can I get a reliable rebuilt transmission if I feel it is something to complicated to do myself? Also once I get engine out who are the reliable people to work on engine if required? I may do most of the work that I have the tools and equipment for, however I used to send my 2 liter engine out to be rebuilt. Any and all information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rick C.

Last quote I got from them for an already rebuilt tranny was $3400-3500
Engine rebuild is Flat six innovation

I have a higher milage 6 speed trans from a 2000 c2. It operates perfectly. Depending on your location i might be able to make u a good deal on it. It would come with the used clutch and flywheel too.
Pm me if interested.
I purchased a Gbox rebuilt transmission for my '99 C2 a few months ago and have been very happy with it so far. Time will tell but I can say that Stanley and Maggie were incredibly easy to work with and answered all my questions.
GBox does. Core charge then when they receive the old tranny they refund you the charge.
I believe they also coordinate the shipping. You just gotta place the tranny on a wooden pallet.
I'll second this. Stanley and Maggie are top notch and do great work.
If you're thinking of DIY'ing the trans rebuild I believe you need a 30 ton press. This is usually where smaller shops fall off in their ability to service these gearboxes

Runs and drives? I guess technically that may be correct.
If the case is cracked the core charge refund might not apply. Post some pictures of the crack and go from there. Might be fixable. There are a few threads on how to take the transmission apart.
U can swap the guts into a new case but i doubt thats economically wise. The insides have small parts and arent that easy to put back together correctly. I still have my perfectly good trans if u want to buy it. $2k will get u on the road quickly.
