Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion
I think changing its look to a 996 Mk II aero would be at best a lateral move.
Leading evidence: 'Replace its look' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace its look' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

have owned my 996 for a year know and I assume there is a time to recap...
I assume that my car might be the one to have given most headaches to its owner. (engine was out for the 5th time)
I am not mad at it and I still love the car, anyway from a dead engined tiptronic car it is now a thumping 3,4 carrera with a stick and an LSD in it and factory GT3 coilovers. This car like my old BMW has taught me quite a lot and I now know the m96 inside out, so as the technical gremlins have been sorted I am now starting to deal with all the exterior problems which for nearly 400 000km car are obvious and quite normal
as I got the car I liked it but always thought that the facelift car always looked a tad bit better. so slowly but surely I managed to source almost every bit of the facelift aerokit look (gt3 mk2 rear lid, gt3 front bumper, facelift front fenders, headlights will be here soon as well, need sills and rear bumper which I think will not be a big deal)
as the car was driven I assume all year long on german autobahns, there are some stonechips, scuffs, scratches and the paint is faded as well, there have been some painted parts one it as well so anyway a respray is due, however I have come across a though whether to put the facelift parts on it or not, the design of the mk1 has grown on me and I really like the chunky aerokit bumper and the taco wing.
as I am planning to keep this car for a while (not a huge fan of stock 997s or new 991s and turbos or GT's seem to be out of reach for the near/distant future, although I like the interiors of 997s and 991 better the 996 pleases me with it's simplicity) the car is also red which in Europe is quite rare as most are dull coloured (black/silver/dark blue)
there are plans of bucket seats and maybe roll cage + maaaaaaybe a vf supercharger kit, (so powerwise more than plenty) but what to do with the exterior? as it is a 1998 high-miler car I am not too confident for a huge increase in value if leaving it stock if the 996 ever skyrocketed as 993) so this might be a longshot precious toy, not driven in winters...
this (at the moment - respray needed anyway)
or this (parts piling up so...)
all opinions appreciated... (sorry for bad grammar or spelling, English is not my native)
I think it looks great as it is. Love the taco wing!
I mean, the 996.2 upgrade look is very sharp as well but why go through the expense of upgrading all those bits when you've got a stunning 996.1?
The 996 Mk I aero is the second best looking iteration of the 996, next to a 996tt. I think changing its look to a 996 Mk II aero would be at best a lateral move.
And I agree that Guards Red is a great color for nearly any Porsche, but especially a Mk I aero. If my Mk I aero had been a Guards Red car, I never would have sold it.
I also think that the MK I aero cars look fantastic. I wouldn't change it. Personally, I like the looks of the 996 C4S better than the 996 TT, but they are both very nice.
thanks. I am thinking strongly about this, the influencing factors are the inevitable respray as the paint has done it's job, and other fact is that all the bits are there, I could sell them of course with profit I assume, but I am not sure of this
thanks for the input guys.
