Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My DMF was turned and clutch pack replaced the first time in there, when the drooling RMS was replaced, @ 30 K as part of the purchase agreement.
Leading evidence: 'Replace @ 30 k as part of the purchase agreement' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'flywheel and pressure plate surfaces' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace @ 30 k as part of the purchase agreement' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I replaced the flywheel (didn't have time to leave the car on the lift) and all is well.

Used the Sachs kit, which does not include an alignment tool (you can borrow mine).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

His will be a winter project - noticed pelican parts have a kit with everything - car has lot of miles
I am confident of a dyi project - any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks for pictures - I am not going to touch IMS for obvious reasons ( not qualified)
Any clutch packs you like better ?

I just had mine done. Used the Sachs kit, which does not include an alignment tool (you can borrow mine).
Be sure to read the TSB on the flywheel spec check.
Okay having done this 2.5x:
A jack works fine instead of the support bar
I didn't resurface my flywheel at 45k miles, and at 76k or so the clutch was slipping on hard launches. The disc that came out still looked brand new but the flywheel was glazed. I replaced the flywheel (didn't have time to leave the car on the lift) and all is well. My dual-mass movement per the TSB was acceptable on the original flywheel.
You need to get the updated clutch fork (997 part number), but be sure to NOT INSTALL the little plastic spacer that goes on the pivoting end of the clutch fork, around the ball. It is for the original fork, and if you install it with the updated fork, the fork will fall off and your slave cylinder will explode. Some of the parts kits (Looking at you, Pelican Parts) included both the little spacer and the updated fork. They were nice enough to replace the blown slave, however.
The axles are pretty easy to get out of the way. You'll probably need a zip tie on the shifter linkage when you reassemble. The transmission mount will be toast, so you'll want to do something with it.
~30k clutch disc...looks fine but slipped! I think it was the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces.
Glazed flywheel
Ahsai,
I always believed that DMF couldn't/shouldn't be turned but the independent dealer's service group where I bought the car insisted that the flywheel should be turned or no warrantee on the clutch replacement.
My DMF was turned and clutch pack replaced the first time in there, when the drooling RMS was replaced, @ 30 K as part of the purchase agreement.
The second time in there for IMSB @60k. I went for Sachs clutch pack and a new DMS Flywheel. So @ 60k engine got: RMS, LN IMSB, Sachs Clutch Pack, new DM Flywheel. Replaced the flywheel & etc... (30K since first time) as "While you are in there" for the LN IMSB.
The original turned flywheel was still fine 30k after it was turned. In fact I sold that set for ~$200 and as far as I know it is still working fine.
Thanks, Frank. Yea, I've heard that you could turn the DMF if you can clamp it down properly (so the center portion does not rotate w.r.t the outer flywheel disc). I also think turning it (if only very little material is removed) should extend its life. I'm not sure how and if they could balance it afterwards though, or maybe it doesn't need much balancing due to minimal material removed just from the surface of the disc during turning.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
