I've used naphtha many times before but my choice is "Goo Gone" as it's more natural and less toxic/more friendly to the paint IMO.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is that what I should use to remove a paint protection film that is on the front foot or so of my bonnet, with two little corners on the tip of each quarter panel? It is beginning to show its age, and I have never been that crazy about it. Heat, gently remove, then clean any residue with naphtha? I used this system to remove a similar film from the first pinball machine playfield I tore down and rebuilt (Cyclone, circa 1988). Couldn't find anything in a search. Thanks in advance. for any advice.

POST 2Original post

I've used naphtha many times before but my choice is "Goo Gone" as it's more natural and less toxic/more friendly to the paint IMO. If Goo Gone can't remove it then I resort to Naphtha as my backup but I haven't had that situation yet. I just removed caked on road tar the other day off my wife's car with Goo Gone in fact.

POST 3Original post

I saw an installer remove it. He used a steamer. Something about the moist heat. This exact model of Jiffy clothes steamer:

If I were you, I would PM Gator. This is his field of expertise.

POST 5Original post

Everyone has you on the right path. Steam will be the fastest although a hair dryer is effective as well. When I say fastest, it's not a fast process. Odds are that you will steam or heat and be able to lift a small section until it shards. It's a tedious deal. Buy a bunch of plastic razor blades. Repeat, PLASTIC. You can order them online. 3M adhesive remover is a great product as well. Goo Gone should yield good results too. Above all, take your time and allot the time necessary. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

POST 6Original post

Some of the paint came off of the very bottom of my front bumper when this was being removed with the steamer. He warned me before he even started. He said if it isn't factory paint, at least a spot or two is almost guaranteed to come up. If it is factory paint some *may* still come up.
